Seeking Information on HVC

I've been reading a lot of posts on here telling people to rescind their contracts immediately for the HVC points that are trusted not the deeded program. However the only explanation I am seeing is because of the cost the person may have paid.
If the cost was not the issue, are there other reasons why people should not be buying the packages that are solely HVC points? In other words, what are the downsides to only having the contracts that do not have a home base?
 
From what I have seen. The trust is more expensive and harder to offload. You can sell the deed but it is hard to even give away the trust points.

My husband and I understand that part. Our main concern is that we can truly use the points the way they were explained to us? We are trying to confirm the booking windows and what resorts are available to us. We were told we could book 10-13 months out at any resort as long as we had the point balance to do so. We just want to make sure that is true. Or if there are issues with booking certain resorts because of the type of points we have. We know that peak season effects the amount of points we would need but other than that is there an issue for HVC members that HGVC members don't have?
 
The Club guide book has the booking windows and the properties with the point requirements. Availability will probably depend on the location and season.

It’s a complicated game. Resale deeds seem to me the best option.

My family has two timeshares purchased resale and are taking better vacations for less. We truly believe in the product, but not the high-pressure sales process.

There are last minute deals, sales, and it’s a fun game to play. Resale is under $10,000 (maybe even less than $1,500 all in) for something that is probably two to three times the value you paid 2-3x as much for. The trick is to get something good enough and enjoy the vacations.

We've owned both developer purchased trust points and resale trust points for years. Diamond (now HVC) doesn't combine them so we have two accounts and switch between the two while logged in online. Diamond isn't just one large trust, its actually multiple trusts or "collections" (U.S. , Hawaii, California, International, etc.). I think there are 8 or 9. Both of our points ownerships are in the U.S. Collection, which I think may be the largest.

With the developer purchased points, we pay for the Club and so we can reserve in any Diamond resort in any collection (I think). With the resale points, we can only reserve in the U.S. Collection resorts. What we've seen over the years is that there seems to be more inventory for the developer purchased trust point account, even for just the U.S. Collection resorts. Also when there are point discounts, such as discounts for stays in Las Vegas or for last minute reservations, we'll see those discounts in the developer purchased account but not in the resale account. So, we have found it is easier to use the points in the developer purchased account than the resale account.

Of course, the cost of the developer purchased points are much, much, much more expensive than resale. (We paid nothing for our resale points.)
 
Has anyone bought hvc retail with hgv max included and then added a resale hgvc deeded legacy to their account? At presentation the sales staff say hgvc resale legacy can only be used at that one resale location, but is that really true? Or can you then use the hgvc at any legacy property. And if you have hgv max from a retail purchase would that change the resale usefulness? Thanks.
 
You can use HGVC resale at any HGVC location.
 
HGVC treats resales owners very well with almost (you won't get HGV Max) all of the same benefits as retail owners.

You will end up with two separate accounts, one for HVC and one for HGVC (either retail or resale HGVC purchase).
