We will be staying at the hilton resort in Sedona next month and we are celebrating my father in law's 60th birthday. We are looking for a recommendation for a very nice restaurant that would have great views & great food. We will have 9 people with us, including 4 children. Someone had recommended the Yavapaii but it is a 2 hour drive almost from our hotel - too much with the kids. We had a recommendation for Shugrues hillside, also, and they have agreed to accommodate us at the window, even with our large party.

The kids are 6 and 9. They are all well behaved in restaurants, but we want to make sure we are not in an atmosphere that is "too" stuffy for them, where we are constantly having to hush them down & they can't even talk to each other.

Is Shugrues our best bet? My father in law is quite wealthy and is paying for this trip for our family. We want to thank him for such a generous gift and really do want this birthday dinner to be spectacular. The quality of the food is important but the atmosphere, view is even more important.

Suggestions? Thank you in advance!!! :)

I love the Enchantment resort and their resaurant. I guess that's the Yavapai. I sure didn't remember it as being 2 hours from Sedona though. In fact I just checked and the Enchantment is less than 9 miles from Sedona and 11 miles from the Hilton. How do you figure 2 hours?

We had plugved in the address from the hilton and the address to the yavapaii and I believe it was like1 hour and 30 mins. With the younger kids we thought that would be too far away.

Hmmm, when I used Google maps and looked at the two addresses I got 16.2 miles miles and about 30 minutes. You did say it was the Hilton in Sedona, right? And you were using the address for the Enchantment? These are the addresses I used.

Hilton Sedona Resort & Spa
90 Ridge Trail Drive, Sedona, AZ‎

Yavapai Restaurant (Enchantment Resort)
525 Boynton Canyon Road, Sedona, AZ

How about on the Creek

Another favorite of ours in addition to Enchantment is L'Auberge Restaurant which is right on the Creek in downtown Sedona. The 'view' would be the water gurgling down the creek.

Another vote for Enchantment. Definitely go for lunch or an early dinner for the best sights and views.

I loved the Enchantment Resort too, particularly for a special occasion.
It really is only about 1/2 hour (or less) from Sedona. Maybe 2 hours from Phoenix, but not from Sedona!

Yavapai Restaurant at Enchantment is on the opposite side of Sedona from the Hilton. Distance would be less than 20 miles and total drive time is less than 30 minutes. The views at Yavapai are superb. Nothing better anywhere in Sedona.
Shugrue's is a decent second choice, but views are secondary there and not guaranteed from most tables.
Closest to the Hilton with great food and decent views from the patio would be Cucina Rustica. In fact, you could walk there from the Hilton.
The fact is that most restaurants in Sedona don't offer much in the way of views. but that's OK, because no matter where you go in Sedona, the views are everywhere. You don't need one from your dining table. Even at Yavapai, half of the people at your table will have to have their backs to the views.

Special Meal in Sedona

I can't imagine going anywhere but Enchantment for your special occasion.
We recently hosted a luncheon for about 12 people that was supposed to be OUR anniversary party -- but 'morphed' into our son's wedding reception. (What is it about going 'off to war' that makes people want to get married?)

About two years ago, DH and I stayed at the Hilton Hotel and ate at a restaurant on the main road in front of the hotel. I cannot remember the name of it. I had written about it but cannot find the post. We ate outdoors. The food was very good. They had a man playing guitar and singing quietly. It was a very enjoyable evening. Or maybe it just seemed so after our harrowing day driving to and from the glass skywalk.

It may have been this place: http://www.cucinarustica.com/1/main.htm

We have eaten at both the Cucina Rustica next to the Hilton and at the L'Auberge (which is just feet from the creek).

Both meals were terrific, but the outdoor patio at L'Auberge was 1000 times better than the strip mall ambience at Cucina...

If the Yavapai at Enchantment is better than L'Auberge, it would be really special...

Enjoy!

There are several excellent recommendations already in this post-I guess it depends on how romantic you want to get. The Cowboy Club is just down the hill from the Hilton - maybe even walking distance depending on what part you are in. Not terribly romantic but a fine steak at a reasonable price. I would re commend the Enchantment for their weekend Brunch and views. :D

Cucina Rustica is near the Hilton. Cowboy Club is 8 miles away in Uptown Sedona

I was just trying to throw them off the track!!:ignore:  I always get the Hilton and the Hyatt mixed up!!

Thank you to everyone for all of the wonderful suggestions. We ended up going to Shugrues and it was wonderful!!! They are under new management (the chef and his wife bought it the week we went!) and they went above and beyond to make it a very special night for us. Wow. Beautiful window seating, an amazing meal, the carrotcake they made for him was to die for. The owner even came over and entertained the kids. Was so special!!

We also went to Fork in the Road our last night there. (that is the place that is directly in front of the Hilton). We sat outside by the fireplace - was wonderful. Just an amazing trip!!
