I'm curious if there is any seasonality to timeshare sales. Specifically, is there any uptick of inventory on the resale market prior to year end as folks try to sell before the next years maintenance fees become due? We're hoping to pick up a Marriott week at one of the beach front resorts on Hilton Head prior to year end.

Yes - from now to the end of the year you may see more inventory.

Ron and Denise are most likely correct with respect to annual week timeshares.

But I wonder if with EOY timeshares that there is an issue of whether or not the closing (and ability to book the home resort) will occur before the end of the year. For instance, if I was buying an EOY-even, I may only have a limited period of time left for reserving a 2016 week (depending on the season I was buying). Even if a person was buying an EOY-odd and wanted to book, say, a high-demand February 2017 unit at the 12 month point, a delayed/extended closing could make that a little risky. :ponder:

Sellers don't think about this - they look at that looming MF bill and want to get out.

Actually, I looked very much at that as a major factor when I was deciding when to list an EOY for sale a few years ago.

Another approach that has worked for me...

Just make sure you have the seller make the reservation and add you as a guest. Once it's closed, you can have your name only on the reservation. If it doesn't close, the seller has a desirable week already reserved, and can use/rent/change, etc. Ymmv. Cheers.
