We attended an owner update associated with the Encore program we purchased last year. The sales person was very nice and really did not offer much information over what we already knew. He primarily concentrated on the (5) SDO annual (Company 47) 2 bedroom lock offs units we own. He explained that Marriott does not take units back for credit anymore and that he may be able to convince corporate to enroll (2) of our Company 47 units for 15K. This would especially be beneficial for us since we are so close the Chairman (Currently @ 14250 points through Abound). By enrolling this would give us an additional 4000 Abound points and would allow us take more vacations in Maui using points and/or use less points when reserving at SDO (44K for large one bedroom at 8 months). Throughout the presentation he stressed that it would be a stretch for them to convince corporate to allow the enrollment of the (2) units but his manager may be able to make it happen.

My wife proposed (just for reaction) what about just enrolling one unit for 10K to reach chairman status (an additional 2000 Points for a new total of 16250). The sales person stated that it would be a waste since purchasing 1000 points through MVC would cost over 15K and for the same amount of money we would be getting over 4000 points. This would make sense if we were really interested in additional points or Chairman status offered much more than Presidential (our current status). For us it would make more sense to purchase in Maui for 15K and go when we want to than it does to enroll the units that we already own for minimal benefits.

The update ended with the usual offer of another update for $695 (includes 4 days @ SDO & 100K Bonvoy Points) that we declined. BTW its really crowded in Scottsdale right now due to Waste Management Open and the Super Bowl. We look forward to everything calming down for the remaining 3 weeks that we are here.

I don't think the added benefits of Chairman's Club are worth $15K. It isn't a stretch for them to do this, I think they are just saying that as a tactic to make people think they are getting a deal or something special. People won't buy unless they think they are getting a deal.
