Staying at the Westin Kierland Scottsdale in less than a couple of weeks. Looking forward to just relaxing at the pool and doing very little. That said, our college student son is coming along, and food will be his #1 interest. 4-star resturants are a total waste on him. He's an athlete and a sports fanatic, so sports bars, Mexican food, and pub food will be a huge hit. Any ideas for good food in Scottsdale/Phoenix for a 20 something? Thanks!

There is a Grimaldi's Pizza in the far part of Kierland Commons (the part with the on street parking), and it has TVs in the bar area and very good pizza and salad. They also own the burger place next door (Coal Fire Burgers, I think it is called). It just opened about two months ago. Burgers are wonderful, and they have sweet potato fries. Can't remember if they have TVs or not. There is a Pub/Tavern on Greenway n the Safeway parking lot (turn right on Greenway coming out from the timeshare, and left into Safeway's lot). I'm sure they are a sports bar, but I didn't eat there. The concierge is very helpful and will probably have many ideas. For you--we ate at the Market Bistro and also took ToGo from there. They are a soup/salad/pizza place. My pizza was lousy, but the salads are wonderful. They make them for you, and you get to decide what add ins you want, up to seven. They have dried fruits, nuts, eggs, cheeses, bacon, several types of onions, sun dried and regular tomatoes, etc. They have about eight good dressings as well, and they are unusual, and house made. They are family owned.

Another suggestion - You might want to try Fox Sports Grill at 16203 N Scottsdale Rd (just north of Paradise Ln). Go out of resort to Scottsdale Rd and take a left or north on Scottsdale Rd. It will be on your right side (east side). Hope you enjoy your stay.

Fern & Dee,

This is exactly the info I needed. Thanks for your help! You can't underestimate the power of a big screen HD set, burgers, pizza, and beer, during the NBA playoffs. Mom and Dad will enjoy the salads!

We ate at a sports bar - I think it was the one in the Safeway lot - and it was good - great hamburgers and fries and good sports pub atmosphere. Funtime

Try the Tee Pee at 42nd St. and Indian School for Mexican. It's been there for 40 years.

I second Fox Sports Grill. Big TV's, really good food and nice atmosphere. We will also be there for the Memorial day week.

Tee Pee looks great. We'll check it out when we go downtown for the Twins vs Diamondbacks game. Thanks!
