We are planning a getaway to N.C., We are owners and can't decide between Sapphire Valley or Lake Lure. Going 1st week in September.Love to Golf, Hike and good food. Any one have a preference?

Lake Lure has 2 golf courses available onsite, Bald Mountain and Apple Valley. We are owners at Foxrun and played the Bald Mountain course last time we were there - we enjoyed it very much. The website for the Rumbling Bald Resort (formerly the Lake Lure Beach and Golf Resort -which is where the timeshares are) is http://rumblingbald.com/

As I recall Sapphire Valley seemed to be farther away and in an area known for waterfalls and forests but I note their website http://www.foxhuntsv.com/ indicates an 18 hole PGA course. We haven't played it.

I can tell you that Lake Lure is about 45 minutes from Asheville - which has other courses as well as Biltmore - a significant draw for us. I believe Sapphire is farther away (but stand to be corrected by more knowledgeable TUGGERS) - but both resorts are in lovely scenic areas and I don't belive you would go wrong with either one.

Both are nice resorts. The tricky part about Sapphire Valley is that part of the resort is a drive away from the recreation center. If you stayed in the units near the rec center, then I like SV. It is a twisty road drive away from Ashville, further than Lake Lure. It is about an equal toss up. Take a look at the things that you want to do, and stay in the one that is closer.
