I have friends in Cape Coral. I want to visit them mid to end September this year 2022 and stay in Sanibel Island. Can I get some lodging recommendations? Thank you.

Since September is prime hurricane season, there have been several exchange sightings posted. Sanibel/Captiva are great, so most any resort would be a good find. Have you checked the member reviews?

There's never a great deal of availability in RCI for the resorts on Sanibel. Since you have a small window you're looking for, even though it is in hurricane season, you'll be lucky if you find something and very lucky if you find two options.

We've stayed at Caribe Beach Resort, Casa Ybel, Lighthouse Resort, Sanibel Beach Club, Shell Island. We'd happily stay at any of the resorts on Sanibel. The resort you're most likely to find something at is the Caribe. It's mostly studios, nothing fancy and an older resort. We've stayed there at least five times and enjoy it. We have a Christmas Day to New Year's Day reservation at the Caribe and are looking forward to going back.

We really like Captiva too. However it takes longer than you think to get there from Cape Coral. We have friends in Cape Coral.

In case you don't know the bridge is the only way on and off the island and there is a $6 toll to get on the island if you have a transponder. It's $9 if you don't have a transponder. Getting off the island is free.

There are nice resorts on Fort Myers Beach. You might want to watch for something there in addition to watching for something on Sanibel.

Naples is a little farther but not that far and we really like Naples too. If you can find something at the Vanderbilt Beach Club or Gulf Pointe Intervals I can recommend both.

Thank you Jan and Sheila for the responses. In retrospect my question was very simple. I'm not a newbie but I realized I need to do a bit of research here also. Our travel times are very flexible as we have friends on the east coast of Florida also. We could always stay with our friends for a few days in Cape Coral and then just stay on the island for a few days at a hotel for some shelling or we get a timeshare and stay a week. To be continued...

If you cannot secure Sanibel, the Westin at Cape Coral has getaways on II. We stayed there in April in the 1bedroom and it was very nice. They have a private ferry boat to ft meyers beach. It’s also fairly easy to day trip to sanibel.

Live in the area and have also stayed in timeshares on Sanibel. This is my first summer in Florida and it is awful. Plus the storms that happen daily are downright scary. Lovely area to visit but I am hoping to go north for august and September

It's been a few years since we've been there. Will my Sunpass work for the toll?

Thanks,

Sheila
