We are considering this hotel for a week in San Francisco this coming July... since I am an educator, the rate is $166 per night - not a bad rate at all. I'd like to hear from anyone who has stayed there recently. It's on Battery St. in the Financial District, supposedly very safe, great location to still get to the popular areas (Chinatown, Wharf, Union Square, Ferry Bldg.), and the reviews on the hotel (a business hotel, not a family or 'tour hotel' - this stated by the front desk on the phone) are excellent.

When questioned about a 'tour hotel', the front desk said that unlike other hotels, Le Meridien is not contracted to any tour companies... therefore, the concierge will help guests as needed but there is no contractual obligation to any specific tour companies.

Anyway, we're looking for a first-class hotel, great location, and I believe the 166 per night is very good. Your thoughts on this hotel and the rate quoted?

Have you ever tried Priceline? We've had great luck with SF hotels. Here is my SF Travel page with info. about things to see and do and also Priceline, if you are interested.

Denise... I have reviewed your pages and strategies, and I may end up on Priceline to see what kind of deal I can get. However, in your opinion, is Le Meridien one of the better hotels you have stayed at in San Francisco? I see you have stayed at several - I believe the last being in 07 or 08 - so it's possible the Le Meridien has renovated... not sure on that... but again, getting another hotel for $110 sounds great, but if the Le Meridien is 'The Place To Stay' if possible... the $166 nightly could work for us. Your thoughts specifically on this hotel, please?

I'm sorry - but I haven't stayed there.

I just checked and Le Meridien is offered on Priceline, but of course you could get any hotel in it's group, not just Le Meridien. I have never gotten the Le Meridien on Priceline, but I've stayed at the other 3 in the same group, and they are all great hotels - you can't go wrong with any of them. There are lots of nice hotels in SF, and we aren't terribly picky about which one we get as long as it's a 3 or 4 Star, so I'm just happy to get a great price.

A friend and I stayed at this hotel last Christmas. I loved it...it was a really nicely updated, clean and very nicely furnished. We got the room for $119 on hotels.com...it was a steal at this price. It is near the pier, bus lines and a few blocks from the Bart. We walked the streets at all hours as we had family there and used public transportation (mostly buses) to get around. If you are flying in, you can take the Bart from the airport to within a few blocks of the hotel...be sure and have a map...

The concierge was very helpful in all we wanted to see and do and to make restaurant reservations or museum reservations...they would call and check on availablity. They were very helpful.

I only have positive comments about our experience there. I look forward to going back and if there is not a timeshare available will stay at this hotel again.

Denise... do you have the link on Priceline that shows the actual hotels listed in the given areas? For some reason, I find the areas of the city but not the hotels specifically listed in those areas. Thanks - and if those are the only 4 listed in the Embarcadero Center area, I believe I will go with Priceline to save some money. Any of those 4 would be fine with us.

As Denice said, Priceline does not tell you what hotels are available until after you have won a price. BUT there are two websites which people like yourself post which hotels they got when they bidded.

Bidding4travel.com & betterbidding.com

Betterbidding.com also does hotwire results.

My wife and I just stayed at the Le Meridien in San Francisco in September. We loved it. We had a very nice room overlooking the bay and also the Coit Tower. We thought the hotel was very nice and upscale and would be happy to stay there again.
