I'm closing on a purchase I made for the San Clemente Inn, in San Clemente CA that I figured I use for a local surfing escape base for OC and San Diego beaches ... but I've read that if you book the right week, it can be a good trader?

While it's not my primary intention to use this as a trader, does anyone know if or know where to look to see if it's traded or is trading (exchanging) for anything in Hawaii...and if so where and what time of year?

There's a reason for this question involving extended family and a big trip next year.

Looks like you bought a 'floating' week. Reserve a 'bright red' (say wk.24>33) summer week and you should be able to pull Hawaii, but you need to deposit your week 12 months in advance for max. trade power. So, you may be a little late for 2008. Kauai has the most inventory.

We had owned at SCI for 25 years! During that time we went to Hawaii 6 times through exchanges...we always reserved Thanksgiving Week and deposited immediately. With SCI, if you call and pay your maintenance fees 2 years in advance, you can then deposit that and have even more time for the search (something we never did).

When VRI gets the internal exchange program underway (probably sometime this year) you will also be able to exchange through the VRI system to the Vaction Internationale resorts in Hawai'i.
