San Clement Cove or Cornando Beach Resort

Don't forget to check the TUG Reviews!

Coronado Beach Resort - rated 8.13

San Clemente Cove - rated 7.18

Stayed at both

I have an opportunity to stay at either. The Cove is a studio; Cornado is a 1 bedroom. Just the 2 of us. Don't mind trains. Love the ocean.

Coronado Beach Resort has a terrific location -- right across from the famous Del Coronado Hotel (where presidents have stayed). Its one bedrooms vary quite a bit. Once we stayed in a one bedroom that had 3/4 wall only, so not too good for more than a couple; another time we had a pull curtain to close off the bedroom. The buildilng is a triangle so almost every unit is slightly different. You pay for parking. Coronado is a great walking town with live theater, museums and you can even take a ferry to San Diego for the day.

Cove has ocean views, is right at the pier. Not as much to do in San Clemente IMHO; there are some shops, some restaurants -- but if you like to lay on the beach, it does offer that. Units are very small. Train stops nearby so you could hop it and go to San Diego. It can get noisy as you get the beach crowd right below your windows.

I feel Coronado Beach Resort 'has more class'.

We like San Clemente for the beach but Coronado would definitely be my first choice. So much more to do in Coronado and you have the number 1 beach in California ( per the Travel Channel ) across the street. I would walk up Orange Ave. to the Coronado ferry and go across to downtown San Diego. It is right at the foot of Broadway next to the pier. San Diego has many attractions downtown and is a great walking city. You can walk along the waterfront, Seaport Village, Horton, Plaza, Gaslamp area, etc.

If you stay at Coronado, I strongly recommend Miguel's Cocina right by the resort for good Mexican food, good ambiance, and reasonable prices.

I've stayed at Coronado Beach Resort. I'd go back again tomorrow, if I could. Can't speak to San Clemente, except that it's up the coast from San Diego. I'd rather be right in the San Diego area. CBR is a great compromise - close to everything San Diego is known for, but kind of off in its own area, too.

Go Coronado

I have been to both and without a doubt you should choose Coronado Beach Resort. I don't live far from San Clemente and it's a nice beach town. However, it is a little isolated. If you just want to lounge around and hit the beach it's great.

However, the Coronado Beach Resort is in the heart of Coronado and there is a lot of activity in and around the resort. It doesn't have the greatest of amenities but you can use another resort's close by as they have some agreement with them. The Coronado Beach is literally across the street and yes, take the tip given to you and eat at Miguel's.

Coronado is really, really close to San Diego. I lived in San Diego for about 8 years and you don't really separate Coronado from San Diego mentally. It's just a car ride across the bridge. I am from NY it would be like going over the 59th street bridge from Manhattan to Queens. The drive from Coronado to San Diego is about 10 minutes. Thus, you could go to San Diego everyday and go to plays and the San Diego Zoo and Seaworld. You will have lots and lots to do.

You will have to drive further from San Clemente to enjoy other activities.

Enjoy Coronado!

We booked Cornado 2nd week in September.
What a lovely time to be there! You won't be disappointed. Be sure to take the ferry over to San Diego and tour the USS Midway.

I second the suggestion to tour the Midway - an absolutely fabulous experience!

The Midway tour is an excellent choice. We have done it twice. It is just a short walk from the Coronado Ferry at the foot of Broadway to the Midway. After that, continue walking a short distance to visit Seaport Village. From there you can walk in a loop up to the Gaslamp area, over to Broadway down to Horton Plaza and then back to the ferry. If you like baseball, you catch a Padres game at Petco Park right in the Gaslamp area. You can eat in the Gaslamp area which has over 80 restaurants.
