Forgive me if this has already been discussed, I don't keep a good eye on this part of the forum.

I have always been told that my Grand Chateau week was not eligible to be enrolled for points, but according to my sales presentation yesterday, I can during their 40th Anniversary celebration. I was told this is a first-time thing Marriott is allowing during this 40th anniversary celebration. My Grand Chateau week was purchased resale, after 2010 so it has not been eligible up until this point.

The offer they were proposing was a purchase of 4,000 points (at the going rate of $17+ dollars), and on years I wanted to exchange my 2BR Grand Chateau, I would get about 3700 points for it. Sorry I don't have the exact number, I am going from memory and I wasn't really concerned with how many points I would get at the time of the presentation.

Incentives were an additional 8,000 one-time use points and an extra 40,000 Bonvoy points. All in all, I would be looking at about 55K to do this deal. I turned it down, but what do you think? When would it make sense to do this -- only if I had multiple resale units I wanted to enroll?

This has been an annual promotion for years. You were likely wise to pass, assuming you are happy with your current usage options.

That wasn't really a special deal. I was starting to get excited. I would love to enroll Shadow Ridge without making a huge purchase. I was offered a deal like that, 4,000 points, to enroll two weeks. I would have 10,000 points but the problem for me was the annual fees, which do not compare in value to our Westin enrolled weeks, which we received quite by accident.

Were your Shadow Ridge units purchased after 2010? I am not saying this is a good deal at all, just that they weren't sticking to their rule of not enrolling post-2010 resale weeks.

So in a nutshell, I could probably get this offer this at any time? And yes, I'm happy with how I've been using my ownerships (exchanging through Interval), though there a couple of situations where I would have liked to have points available to book hard-to-get locations. I will have to consider renting those weeks for now.

Here was the first report of such offer back in 2015. They have been offering a variation annually ever sense, with the needed points purchase increasing over time.

Thanks for finding that thread for me. I never actually asked the salesperson if I would be able to choose less than 4000 points and still get my week enrolled. If I did buy points I would have liked a smaller amount and then rent in whenever I needed more.

There are many, many threads about this. The amount needed has varied depending on time of year and salesperson. It seems the home office salespeople can go the lowest.

These deals are available only if the weekday you do the presentation ends in "...day".
(BTW, don't do it, there are better ways to enjoy Marriott time, as Tuggers often explain.)

Other than points you can enroll with weeks (Spain, Aruba, St. Kitts, etc) from those locations or in some cases, from the internet sales office though I don't think they can sell Spain. One could enroll one week for around $14K roughly or about $6 per point per week enrolled for Spain. Given current prices and situation I think it's a stretch to pay to enroll for almost all situations given the current options.

Before I went to the presentation, I actually went on TUG to read the FAQ, and this is the part that made me think I had my facts-straight before going in:
  • Weeks purchased on the external resale market on or after the 6/20/10 (US and Caribbean) and 6/18/12 (European) introduction dates are NOT eligible for enrollment.
Now that I went back and re-read the FAQ I see that farther down the page there is a bullet point that says:
  • Two recurring sales incentives involve direct-purchases of either DC Trust Points or non-US-based Weeks, that allow for simultaneous enrollment of otherwise-ineligible previously-purchased Weeks. These incentives may be subject to begin-and-end dates, specific Trust Points minimum purchases and/or cut-off dates for the existing Weeks. See this ongoing thread: Ongoing Sales Incentive - Enrolling Post-6/20/10 Weeks [Merged]

So really that bolded bullet point is not a hard and fast rule anymore. Good to know though, I would definitely try for a better deal at the home office should I want to pursue points ownership.

Thanks.

My weeks were all purchased within the last 10-12 years. They have offered to enroll our weeks many times for a purchase.

I might consider something, when I get another two Westin weeks to enroll, if they will even do that. The fees on the Abound points through the trust??? are expensive with MF's, so the purchase would have high MF's but the Westin weeks would be well worth the enrollment, if I even wanted to do it. Doubtful.

Is it called "the trust?"
