Safeway and Von's Supermarkets (same company, you can use either card) have a program now called "Just for You." Before you go to the store each week you log onto their website with your card number (only has to be set up once on a home computer if you have cookies). It knows what you have purchased before, and will often offer you cheaper prices on those items.

For example, if bananas are on sale,, I still get them 10 cents cheaper. I get cottage cheese over a dollar cheaper, even cheaper than store brands. I get Dreyers/Edys Juice bars a dollar cheaper, etc. You click the items you want, and it "saves them electronically" to your card. Many of the "Just for you" ones are good for a whole month and are not advertised specials.

It also puts Club Price Specials on your card if you want, and clipless coupons. When you are done, you have a shopping list that you can either print out or view on your smart phone. You can add other items you need that are not on sale and then print your list out.

If you are not at home, I think most of the stores have computers you can use to add items to your card.

Always saving dimes adds to dollars over the long run.

Great tip! How does this work if you are shopping at a store on vacation? For instance, there are Safeways in Hawaii, where we shop, but prices are higher than CA.

It has a store locator and you can view local ad sales, coupons, and the new just for u.

I still prefer the ads and coupons, but I'm slowly coming around to using the app shopping list instead.

These programs do save money especially if a family spending $100+ a week on groceries.

But, then it may be better to shop Costco!

Or, if retired military then BX.

Personally, I find close by WalMart with its price match the best deal going and simply sitting down with Wednesday grocery ads, but one person and a lite eater!

Manufacturer's coupons generally really don't match WM own brands.

It behovees one to look arond and see what is best for their own situation.
