Preparing for our Thanksgiving trip to Orlando and need to give resort preferences to Sabal Palms. Any recommendations from owners/past guests of Sabal Palms regarding requests would be appreciated. Expect to be using the new water slides at the J.W. a lot as well as DS/DD wanting to visit the teen center.

Unless you have mobility issues ask for a second floor unit. Nobody will be above you and whatever view you get will be marginally better. I wouldn't consider any of the buildings better than the others. It is a very small footprint.

Ask for a refurbished unit. We were there a couple of months ago and they were doing refurbishments at that time. Also agree to get a second floor unit if you can deal with stairs.

We really like this low key resort that is walkable to the World Center Marriott. We typically go to the hotel pool because of the amenities but this last visit we stayed at the Sabal pool twice and had it all to ourselves.

Enjoy!

I can't help, this is the only Orlando property we haven't visited. I can vouch for how fun that slide tower is though. If you lift your feet toward the bottom of the drop slide, you will skip almost all the way to the steps.

Great resort.....not mentioned as much as some, but a well kept secret, so to speak. Very spacious, and great unit layout. Definitely request refurbished villa. Close to parks, easy access to World Center Hotel and restaurants. We prefer higher floors.

This is the one resort where we have no strong preference between a high and a low floor. It is our favorite resort in Orlando. We owned there for over 20 years before we sold when we bought in Hawaii about 10 years ago.

Just did this morning. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks for the suggestions. Requested 2nd floor and an updated unit. Look forward to testing Dioxide's theory regarding the new drop slide.

I'm at Sabal Palms in an updated unit now, and I can say that the refurb is very very nice. New furniture, carpet, drapes, lamps, accents, paint, etc.

Like others, I prefer the 2nd floor units. As long as you can deal with the stairs. I believe it's something like 19 steps. I also don't care for a pool view, so I always request a water or golf course view.

I am not too worried about the secret getting out. A few of us have given several extraordinary recommendations for Sabal Palms over the years and yet few TUGGERs seem to be that interested in staying there, preferring the Orlando resorts not on the World Center property, even if they have never tried Sabal. I am like you, I think it is a gem, and the indifference of others to it does not bother me at all.

Well, I'm the exception here then - I've stayed at Lakeshore before (and two DVC resorts when they were still with II), but this past March tried Royal Palms and liked it. For my next spring break this coming March I traded into Sabal Palms (actually did an ePlus retrade from Royal Palms from the same week) and am looking forward to an even shorter walk to the WC. Funny thing is when I was at Royal Palms in March I never even saw Sabal - it must be hidden behind the hotel.

I suspect it is the Dick Cheney of MVC properties (kept in an undisclosed secure location).
