Maybe I have it wrong, but this is the way that I understand it from their web site:

First checked bag if you pay in advance via the website: 15 Pounds ($24)
First checked bag if you fail to pay in advance: 35 Pounds ($58)

In other words, if you are unaware that you need to pay via the website, you end up paying an extra $68 ($116 total fee) for a round trip for your first checked bag.

It gets worse.

Second checked bag (website fee): 35 Pounds ($58)
Second checked bag (airport fee): 70 Pounds ($116)

[Note: Sporting equipment and musical instruments cost more from the get go.]

Do you think the American airlines are watching?

Moral of the story: Unless $$ is no object, don't check bags.

ryan air

This has been the mantra for Ryan Air from the beginning. Low fare- charge for everything. It all depends on what you want.

I took Ryan air this year for the first time (from Marsseille to Malaga). I made sure that I had only my carry on. They did not check how much was the weight. For one luggage that we checked in, we did it online, and I do not remember being too much. It was not too heavy. I also think their prices go up.

Also I think if you do not check in online and you check-in over there there is also a fee. There is a fee for pretty much everything. Also there is a 5 euro fee per ticket for paying with a Visa online. It's just crazy!!

I am waiting for Ryanair to start charging to get a place to sit. If you don't pay, you have to stand all the way.

Cheers

Well, they have to give you a seat-belt with which to strap yourself in.
But they don't have to give you a cushy seat (it could be metal)...
not that many are all that cushy.

Almost 2 years ago we used them. Didn't pay online for baggage check and they didn't charge us at the airport. (3 of us). Return flight they did charge, which ticked me off. They said I had been lucky the flight over. Guess so! Glad they didn't charge retroactively.

I just flew back from Riga, Latvia. Going through the airports document check station just before immigration, the airport personel were challenging the size of many carryons. All of the passengers who objected were referred to the RyanAir sizer and send back to the RyanAir desk if it did not fit, which were quite a few, be apparently small margins. I approached with some dread myself, but since I was on Air Baltic they did not even look at my carry on. At least in Riga, the airport personel seem to be acting as carryon enforcers for Ryan, but apparently not for other airlines. I wonder if the airport gets a kick back of part of the extra revenue.

Since I have some upcoming flights on RyanAir next month, I made a point of putting my new carryon in a RyanAir sizer airside and fortunately it fit, wheels, handles and all, so I know I should be safe from the luggage gestapo.

Hi,

Ryanair is to increase fees for checked-in baggage from next month as part of a change in policy. However the amount of bags passengers can check-in has also increased. From 1 October Ryanair passengers will be able to check in two bags, each with a separate 15kg allowance. The current allowance is 15kg.
