I am in the process of buying two flex (1-2 and 17-51) weeks at the Charter Club of Marco. I won't be able to reserve anything until 4-6 weeks according to the HGVC person I just talked to because of deed recording and closing etc.

One of the reasons I wanted HGVC was their points systems so I did not have to stay a full week(kids in school). I wanted to try a long weekend in November 2007 (i.e. Thurs to Monday-Veterans Day weekend).

Can I do this(4 days) with HGVC and How?
Will there be anything left since it is not far away 6-7 months
What do I do with the leftover points since I won't be able to use them?
If I deposit it into RCI Points how many points do I get ?

Thanks

:wall:

I can't help you out with your availability question, since the Charter Club is one of the resorts that is not bookable online (you need to call), so I can't check the availability online. But I can take a stab at some of your other questions.

You can make reservations up to 9 months in advance, with a minimum 3 night stay. Just look at the HGVC Point Chart to see how many points it will take. Note that weekend nights cost more points than weekday nights.

At the end of the year, you can "rescue" unused points to be used for next year, or you can deposit them into RCI and you will have 2 years to use them. There is a fee to do either of these transactions.

Of course, you could use your points to make a reservation at any other HGVC property as well, such as Vegas, Orlando, etc.

HGVC has it's own Point Chart for RCI reservations. The RCI points you get are in a HGVC account, and you make all reservations through HGVC. This is separate from any other RCI Points account you may have -- I don't think there is any way to combine it with another account.

The Charter Club of Marco isn't HGVC but a HGVC affiliate. Therefore much of the advice about HGVC may or may not be relevant to you.

Most owners at the Charter Club of Marco have not affiliated with HGVC therefore unlike a true HGVC resort were every room is available to HGVC owners (first at 12 months for owners at the resort and next at 9 months for everyone else in HGVC), the rooms at the Charter Club of Marco are mostly used by the deeded owners and the small supply of rooms which HGVC gets are quickly reserved by other HGVC owners. You may also find that reservation of less than a week are difficult at the Charter Club. ( they are often available at true HGVC resorts)

So, you could have the current owner reserve a unit for you now and not deal with HGVC till 2008 when you can use the 12 month home resort avantage.

HGVC

Thanks for the info from both. I realize that Marco is an affiliate but I can use "Marco" points to go to actual HGVC resorts as well as less than full weeks at the HGVC resorts, correct ??

Let's say I convert my (2)Marco flex weeks to points (10,000 correct?)and stay at Orlando over the Veterans Day weekend in 2007 (gold 2 Bedroom is 1000+1000+ 1000+500 for Fri to Mon) ---then use the remaining 6,500 points and "rescue" the points for 2008(for a fee) or put them in RCI for 2 years(for a fee) ?

Is my logic correct ???

Thx again

Atlanticwatergate-Maybe I am asking the obvious-but did you check to see whether or not the owner that you are buying your unit from has reserved any 2007 or 2008 weeks? The number of points assigned to yor floating week will vary based on the week that is reserved. I just closed on a Charter Club unit last week. Our seller had reserved Gold weeks for both 2007 and 2008 when we made an offer to purchase the unit in January. We switched the 2008 week to another Gold week that worked better for us. We will probably "rescue" the 2007 points (which HGVC told me that I could do) for use in 2008. if the seller did not reserve a Gold week in 2007, you may only be able to get enough points for a silver week for use in 2007. You also may want to call the Charter Club directly to see if they can give you a handle on availability for the timeframe that you want. It is my understanding the check-in occurs on a Saturday.

Yes, you can use your Marco points to make any HGVC reservation. The only thing I am not sure of is the process to convert your 2 weeks at an affiliate property to HGVC points. I thought you could do it anytime, but I am not sure (maybe it has to be done at the beginning of the year? Or when you reserve a week?). Bill or someone else should be able to answer that question.

I just looked, and there is availability for all sizes of rooms for Veteran's Day weekend in Orlando (at both properties), so making a long weekend reservation then should be no problem.

Don't Know

Bxian,

I bought these two properties from 2 different owners and don't know them, just the selling agent. One was from Seth who has been very helpful but i hit a stumbling block.
In order to reserve by days instead of weeks I have to be an HGVC Club Member. (Seth had HGVC e-mail me the form) . I can't become a HGVC member until I have a contract # which is almost when I get the deed. So I am afraid that I'll have two weeks in 2007 and not enough time to use them.

Did you go or anybody through this when you made a mid-year resale purchase? If so what did you do?

Atlanticwatergate-We will run into the issue of 2007 use this year. We had already made our vacation plans for 2007 when we bought our Charter Club unit. As indicated above, the seller had already reserved the 2007 and 2008 weeks. While they were good weeks, they were not for dates that worked for us. I was told by HGVC that we could "rescue" our 2007 points so that we could flip them over into 2008. I was also told that we could deposit them into the RCI system for use next year. We will use one of these options. It appears that the Southern California and Portugal resorts (which may require more points) may be open next year, so you may want to keep those options in mind for 2008 usage (although you should check to see if rescue applies to any HGVC property, including affiliates):( . For 2008, the Charter Club was able to switch the week that the owner had reserved for one that we wanted.

I can tell you that things moved relatively quickly for us. We made an offer in mid-January and received our closing instructions from Grand Vacations Title in less than 4 weeks. We were away when the package arrived, so we did not send the check immmediately. We closed 3/1, less than 10 days after sending them our check.

I called HGVC this morning and was told that we are "in the system," but have not had a member number assigned yet. The person I spoke to said that it could take up to 6 weeks to get our membership materials, although it can take less time than that. She said that I could call back to check next week to see if the number has been assigned. It's frustrating-I own but can't see what is available yet!

I should add that Seth is terrific! I contacted him when I decided to look for a Charter Club unit. Although I ended up buying through someone else, Seth was very generous with his time, even though he knew during our second phone call that I would be buying elsewhere.

I owned charter club and am selling my surf club
I joined Hgvc and had them roll the points in to next year. if you cant use them this year that a good idea. I would not worry too much about getting the reservation you want. Its not that tough except week 51- 15.

Don't forget you can rent open season also.

Don't forget you can rent open season also.
I have found out that the Open Season rentals is one of the best benefits of owning HGVC, at least for me.

I live in Colorado, so Valdoro Lodge in Breckenridge is fairly close. Since January, I have gotten three weekend Open Season reservations -- my latest one is next weekend during Spring Break! :whoopie: I thought it would be impossible to get ski weekend reservations on such short notice, but I have been pleasantly surprised by the availability. If you want to save your points for other reservations, the cash rates for Open Season are very reasonable.

An update as to how long it took to get our HGVC Club number after our Charter Club closing. We closed 3/1. On 3/7, I called HGVC to see if our member number had been assigned yet. It had not been. They suggested I wait a week and call back, which I did on 3/12. They then suggested that I call our sales agent. She took care of it for us and got us our Club number in less than 24 hours. We don't have our membership kit yet, but at least I can go online and see what is available:)

Try calling (800) 521-3144. They may give you a prompt to speak to a reservation agent-if so, and they can't help you, tell them that you are a new owner that just closed and have questions about whether or not your account number is set up yet. If not, then ask whether you should be dealing with the title company or with someone else.

One thing that may have helped me expedite things is that our seller already booked 2007 and 2008 weeks at the Charter club. We took the points for 2007 to use elsewhere, but switched the reservation week and have reserved week 1 at the Charter club for 2008. The number was e-mailed to me in a confirmation of our 2008 reservation after our sales rep got involved to push things along. If you closed using Grand Vacations Title, it may be that they have not yet initiated the Club membership process (at least for us, they collected the iniial Club membership fee as part of the closing).

Best of luck-it's fun to (finally!) get on the website. I was surprised to see Open season availability for Hawaii in March (at least last night-that may be different today) -I had thought that March was a popular time to visit there
