Royal Vacation Suites in Las Vegas?

Husband and I are going to Las Vegas next week for the first time. We will be staying in a studio at the Royal Vacation Suites on Convention Center Drive. Resort reviews were written more than 4 years ago, so we would appreciate updated information.

Based on old reviews, this hotel would not be our first choice, but we had to grab something last minute before we lost an expiring banked week through Trading Places. We can't alter this exchange, so we are not looking for recommendations about other lodging options.

Instead, we are looking for practical advice about how to make the most of what we have. What activities or amenities can we expect at the Royal Resort? Is one room location better than another? Are there things we should know about the hotel or staff? Are there special requests we should make?

What is the best way to get around town from this location on Convention Center Drive? We originally intended to use public transportation, but I've read that a rental car may be more practical, especially if we want to see surrounding areas. What about when we plan to spend a day or evening on the Strip? Is it too far to walk as we go from place to place, or is better to drive and park along the way? What about going into downtown or other locations in the city?

We will welcome any advice you have to share about this hotel or about getting around from this location.

You may indeed want to have a car, but from this resort, it's just a block to L.V. Blvd (the Strip). We were just there a couple of weeks ago, and found that the 'Deuce Bus' was a practical and easy way up and down the Strip and to Downtown- for Fremont St. Experience and activities there. A Deuce Bus pass is about $8pp for 24 hours or $20pp for 3 days. Buy these passes right at the bus stops on LV Blvd with cash or credit card before you use them. There is a bus stop at the airport, but with much luggage, you might just want a taxi, then rent a car at a Strip location on day(s) you want one. Can't help you with resort info.

Thank you for info about the bus. We have reserved a car for the week, but we will check out public transportation after we arrive. We may end up using the car mostly for trips away from the strip or out of the city.

Still eager to get some information about Royal Vacation Suites. Has anyone stayed there recently?

You say you are not looking for other recommendations as you are committed to staying at this resort. It's a remodeled relatively small motel. About your only choices will be upstairs or downstairs. Perhaps you might call them and ask for your preference. I often kid the desk help at inexpensive lodgings and ask for the Presidential Suite, or Bridal Suite. Sometime they laugh and give me some kind of upgrade. Sometimes they don't.

Good Luck, and have fun. Spring is a good time to be in Vegas.

I would suggest buying THE UN-OFFICIAL GUIDE TO LAS VEGAS or using it at the library. There are maps in the back that show you how to drive to everything on the strip without having to drive on the strip. They will save you lots of time and frustration. The book also has good evaluations of restaurants and entertainment.

We are fans of driving when in Las Vegas; we like being in control of our own time.

I won't have time to order THE UN-OFFICIAL GUIDE TO LAS VEGAS from Amazon. Is it likely to be available at the Las Vegas airport?
