Royal Sands room assignment

I asked the Royals REsort desk if they could tell me the unit I will have on our stay there ina month since I am considering ordering groceries. They told me II knows it. They do not have the information. When I called II, they said Royal Sands assigns it a week or so ahead. When I booked the unit on exchange through II, the vacation counselor said the unit was J5430. But, now II says that is just a code and does not mean the room. Whom should I believe? Thanks for your help.

II is Right

The resort knows the rooms you will be assigned - unless they only assign them at check in. I would call the resort about two weeks before and tell them you want to order groceries and need to know the unit to have them delivered to correctly. I have had it both ways (sometimes I can get the resort unit number and sometimes they tell me it won't be assigned until checkin)

When we went to the "Exchange History" part of the II website it told us the room we were supposed to be assigned. I went to the Royal website and just ordered my groceries to be delivered to that room. When I checked in and mentioned the room number they said that was the correct one. No problems.

Does anyone know how to decipher J5430? (Just a guess -Royal Sands, J building, Fourth floor, unit 30?) Also, if this is true, is the 4th floor very high? Will it be noisy from the pool noise? Thanks for your help.

Hi. Yes you are in building "J" on the fourth floor. This overlooks the pool in phase 2 and also has an ocean view. Last year we stayed in J5329 (next door and down one level.) We enjoyed the location. The phase 2 pool area is a lot quieter than Phase 1, which has all the organized activities. The Royals normally assign the villa which is on your II confirmation but they are not obligated to give you that villa. They are only obligated to assign you to a 2 bedroom villa.

I believe there are 8 floors in that building. You would be on the fourth floor. You would be far away from the kiddie pool (which would be more quiet I think). This building is in Phase 2 of the Royal Sands which I prefer. Phase 1 (in my opinion) is louder with a more concrete/Las Vegas feel to it. It's also easier to find a lounge chair by the pool on the Phase 2 side.

Can anyone tell my 2 reservations: H5122R and J5445R (both efficiency), since I am a sole traveler? Any suggestion where I can go eat? There is no kitchen in my unit. Can I ask for the same unit so I don't have to move after one week?

Hello from the Royals Sands...OOPS! Wait, I am at the Royal Islander, NOT the Royal Sands where I was confirmed into unit 5916 almost TWO YEARS ago!

Apparently the Royal Resorts has changed their policy and are putting exchangers wherever and in my case, changed resorts.

I am going to start anther thread about this, But it REALLY stinks!

H5122R is in Phase 1 of the Royal Sands. It is on the first floor. You will have pool/oceanview and your building will be near the stairs leading to the beach -far from the lobby. Building J would be in Phase 2 in similar position but I cannot locate the room number you gave on my map.

When you check in let them know that you are staying for two weeks and would like to be able to remain in the first room if possible for the second week. If the owner of the second room assignment is not scheduled to come then you have a good chance of staying in the first room. They will actually call the owner's home to find out. Unfortunately, you will not know the answer until later in the week.

As far as restaurants. There is a restaurant on site that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. They even have a take-away section. Resort will also deliver pizza to your room. In addition, waiters are available poolside and at the beach to bring you lunch. And, Kukulkan Plaza is within a short walking distance of the resort for more food choices. Hope this info is useful.

Yikes! The Royal Sands must be completely full this week. Keep us informed.....

After reading GrayFal's post, now I am nervous! I am scheduled to go Easter week. I knew that they can change rooms. Never knew they can change resorts.

I recently traded into the Royal Mayan, checking in May 17, 2008. My confirmation from II does not list a unit number, should it?

I posted on this thread to make people aware that there is a possibility that your resort could be changed. i never dreamed it could happen but as you see, it did. :(

I would recommend that people that have an exchange into the Sands call II immediately and ask if they are guarenteed a room at the Sands.
I am happy to provide my info for you via PM.
Unless people complain, the Royal Resorts will be allowed to continue this practice...and it is just not right.

That being said, I am enjoying my stay -not going to let this ruin my trip.

Change in Royal Policy

In the good old days, you always got the villa that was listed on your confirmation. Based on personal experience, let me tell you, that is NO LONGER the case. You are at the mercy of the front desk when you check in. They DO NOT necessarily give you the room that is on your confirmation letter.

We actually OWN at the Sands and were not given the villa we were assigned (we exchanged weeks). I would have thought actual owners wouldn't be moved around. I was wrong.

I am planning to ask some questions about this during week 11 when we are in Cancun. Depending on what I hear I think I will draft some letters to the owners on the advisory board asking them to look into it and urging them to have the resort publish a stated policy on how this works and what the pecking order is as villas are assigned to renters and exchangers.

Sounds like a good idea - let me know if you would like any other info from me via pm.

A policy regarding room assignments that is fair to everyone is a good idea.
My 3 other friends were not given the villas that were on their confirmations but I am the only one that was moved to a different resort (and II says that should NOT have happened)

I traded into the Royal Sands for a week in September 2007. We haven't stayed there yet and are so excited and looking forward to it. We specifically chose the Sands since it's the only Royal with an on-site spa, and even though all of the Royals sound very nice, it was our first choice and we used full credits for it.

What can I do to make sure they don't move me to a different resort upon check-in? If I call II, can they do anything? Does it pay to call the resort NOW, this far in advance? I get myself all worked up over these types of things, even though I try not to, as I really want to make sure we get what we traded for.

Thoughts?

We just were confirmed for President's Week 2008. Royal Sands 2 years in a row! :whoopie: , but this confirmation lists the room as AI. What does that mean? Thanks.

Update: The confirmation just came in with the Room Assignment changed from AI to F5916R. Not sure what the R stands for. But, from the above posts, it does not sound like the room assignment means much anymore, anyway.

Room assignment

I own at the Royal Islander but have exchanged weeks several times in the past couple years. Most recently this past December into the Royal Caribbean and a couple weeks ago into the Royal Sands via II.

Both times I was given the room that shows up on my exchange history on II's website. I asked to be assigned a different room and they said that they cannot do this you get what you've been assigned.

Jo-jo,

F5916R means building F - 9th floor (this is the penthouse floor) - Villa 16. The "R" stands for the lockoff room only. Hope you don't need a kitchen & have only 2 in your party.

We own F5816 for weeks 5&6 which is the villa just below your trade in. Great location with fantastic pool & beach views.

You will have a great time.
