Royal Islander - Credit card hold

I am exchanging my Marriott Grande Ocean for Royal Islander in June, just prior to completing the exchange with Interval the final terms and conditions mentioned a credit card hold upon checkin of approx $850 USD based on a 2 bedroom villa - this seems extreme. Has anyone else experienced this when checking in and/or had problems having the hold released. I am sure we will bill some items to the room but not sure $850 for 6 days.

This is standard at The Royals for non-owners. Though you might not charge anywhere close to that much, others do. For example, if there are six people and they book a tour to Chitzen Itza or X-Caret, order a lot at the bars, etc.

Don't be concerned, it's just a hold to protect them from the situation where people had been walking out without paying the final bill. At the end, it'll all be adjusted to only charge your card what you actually charged to your resort account. (No money or credit cards are used at the resort; everything goes on your key card.)

At the Royal Haciendas we had the same kind of hold for a 2BR, even though there were only two of us - apparently the amount is based on the size of the unit rather than the number of people.

I don't have any issues with this - the "hold" is released when you check out, and only the exact amount you've run up in bills is charged to the card.
This is normal at many ts and hotels - the Royals are just more upfront about it.

Thanks for quick reply!

Lisa, I understand that in the unlikely event that you reach the $850, or come close, they will let you know. We had that happen a number of years ago when the exchange was in the name of our friends rather than ours.

Enjoy your visit.

Quick ? Mike

Mike,
Did your friends travel with you or were you using their exchange? I am taking another mother and her daughter and we would love to have two different key cards for our own charges - any chance in that? Maybe they could put a hold of $500 on each card? Just thinking ahead.

I am getting a lot of great travel tips from Trip Advisor but this issue has not been addressed yet.
Thanks!

Our friends made the exchange. At the time I was not aware of the credit card matter since the reservation was in my friend's name. We go for 2 weeks at a time. One week is ours and one week is their exchange. PJ or someone can chime in here, but I think the statements are broken down by key card-holder. Everyone has a card and the statements reflect charges accordingly. But it seems is though the deposit is on one credit card. I am sure the front desk can advise. If you need clarification you can go to the royalresorts.com site and initiate a chat session with customer service.

Yes, that is correct. The key cards all look alike, so I recommend bringing a sharpie to mark whose is whose. Everything is listed by date and then separately by key card, so it's really easy to deal with at the end. I am not sure about breaking up the initial CC deposit.....but the bills can be paid by separate CCs at the end.
