Rocky Road ice cream most under rated flavors

I kinda like vanilla.

Agreed for Ice Cream... but...

My tastes have matured recently and I am really enjoying Gelato. The flavors are exactly like what the real thing tastes like. (coconut, pineapple, cotton candy, or whatever you are into)

There is a Argentinean Gelato and Coffee place in Winnipeg (Eva's Gelato) that would give any of the Gelato places we tried in Nice and Monaco a run for their money! (Been there twice this week!)

Rocky Road is my favorite that I can get.

My all time favorite was bittersweet chocolate at Swensen's. Alas, no Swensen's no more. At least none in Texas.

Frozen Food

About 35 years ago I worked frozen food in a large grocery store for 7 years.
We sold a ton of ice cream but the number 1 seller by far was vanilla (about 20 to 1). Finally figured out why. Most of the shopping was done by women and they prefer vanilla or think most people do. When men bought it was usually something with chocolate or mixtures.

Frozen pudding ice cream (a very old-timey flavor) my favorite. It's hard to find, but a few places have it here in New England.

Red Velvet Cake (recent flavor).

I love the custom made to order at Cold Stone. My personal favorite is cake batter with Heath bar.

The plus about it all is that ice cream is the true health food! :hysterical:

(mental heatlh, that is, after all, when everyone's down and they break out the ice cream, the whole mood changes!)

Vanilla is a more versatile flavor (i.e. used as a la mode for cakes, pie, cobblers, etc.) while other flavors are more stand-alone (i.e. you're going to eat a bowl of that, and not use it as a topping on something else.)

Personally, I prefer chocolate, nuts, caramel in my ice cream, if I'm going to eat it alone. But vanilla is staple in my house, because I make *a lot* of pies, crisps, and cobblers in the summer, and always want to make sure I have vanilla on hand to be the perfect topping.

(These days, we've been making most of our own ice cream with our Cusinart maker, using real cream from a local dairy, and, usually, locally-sourced fruit and other ingredients. Beats anything commercial hands-down.)

Where did the supporting data come from?

Or is this a personal opinion.......or were you having a moment (think ice cream container and spoon) when you posted? :D

I agree with the following post about the versatility of Vanilla ice cream. It goes with just about anything. DH loves Vanilla and says it's his favorite. Me; like amycurl; chocolate, nuts and caramel. Yum! :)

Never had that pleasure. Alas, only commercial. :hi:

I'm a guy and will always buy a chocolate ice cream. Some of you may gag about what comes next (DW thinks it is disgusting but has never tried it), but I use chocolate ice cream on apple pie. Think about it for a moment. If cheddar cheese can be used, why not my favorite? It is not so different than carmeled apples.

I'm a gal...I had mocha almond fudge with my strawberry - rhubarb pie last night, it was yummy. Think, chocolate dipped strawberries....mmm!

I like Moose Tracks or Blue Bunny Bunny Tracks. :cheer:

Moose tracks is indeed yummy, however, I've never gotten past the name to embrace it. I hear "moose tracks" and all I think of is "moose droppings" and lose interest. :hysterical:

I like ice cream probably way too much!

One of my very favorites and a harder one to find is Black Walnut. :)

That's my dad's favorite, and it is indeed hard to find. I tried to get him on to butter pecan as an alternative, but no go! lol

It's my dad's favorite too! That's probably where I learned to like it. :)

Maybe it's one of those really old out of style flavors that were more popular way back when.

Funny, I was going to mention Moose Tracks too and figured no one else would even know what it is.

When I was 10 I got tonsillitis. My mother wanted me to feel better so she bought me Rocky Road because it was my favorite. I guess she missed that nuts and chunks with an inflamed throat is not the best combo.

My favorite is still Rocky Road. DH always buys vanilla and DS always buys mint chocolate chip. When we all want ice cream at the same time the freeze is not big enough.

Rocky Road, or Moose tracks or just about anything with chunks of chocolate or fudge and/or marshmallow is just about perfect all by itself. On pie, vanilla bean. My current favorite (which there may be some more of in the freezer- but not for long) is Sea Salt and Caramel with Chocolate chunks.

Sea salt in (or on) ice cream....Heavenly!
