We went down to Rocky Point / Puerto Penasco with friends for a few days and just got back. We were staying on the beach in Las Conchas for this trip, but drove over to the MP/GM to take a look at the new Grand Mayan and the grounds. They gave us some temporary wrist bands - I did need to leave an ID at the front desk until we were ready to leave. We walked all around and were impressed with what they had done. There is a kids club with some water features and an activity area for the kiddos that is a smaller version of NV GM. The GM has a lazy river, but no one was in it as the water was cold. But, in the larger GM pool, there were people in it and there are 2 whirlpools that were actually warm! They kept the pool more comfortable. There were people in the indoor pool on the MP side - more in the indoor pool than the outdoor one. There were about 3 other warm whirlpool tubs that were not attached to the pool - they were up in a more private area just as you enter the GM pool area from the lobby. The lobby to the GM was small but nice. The main lobby to the MP has been renovated and looks great. They do run a shuttle from the GM to the MP lobby as the GM lobby is close to the sales office area. The largest building between the MP Tower and the GM is still just a shell of a structure. There were only two workers at that building on Monday, but there were a lot of workers at the new restaurant that is near the GM pool. The place us looking really nice.It has been a long time coming, but it is getting there, and I would be happy to stay at the GM there. :)

Grand Mayan Puerto Penasco

We just returned from a week stay at the Mayan Palace, including the Grand Mayan facilities. The complex is a beautiful area with an amazing beach and wonderful staff. The repairs in Cabo are moving ahead and they were expecting about 200 workers to be returning shortly to work on the Mayan. Seemed like about ten or twenty were already on site and at work.

We, of course, took the sales presentation, and were immediately presented with a written notice that Interval International and RCI would no longer be representing the company as of October. All activity will be handled by SFX Resorts in the future and all the properties will be part of a private club.

During the week of Cinco de Mayo and Mother's Day the sales office was quite busy. As experienced presentation participants they had a few new wrinkles to present along with their upcoming Cirque du Soleil programs and addition of "amusement parks" at a few locations.

Food was excellent by the way.

That's very interesting regarding the move away from II and RCI. I wonder if that was the long range plan with the creation of their Advantage Program?

I came across something a few weeks ago that was about the Vida Vacations and it said to call SFX at 1-800-AWAY-I-GO that has always been the Mayan World Customer Service & Reservations number. I thought that was extremely interesting. Have not had time to do more research, but that jumped out at me.

Maybe with that they will actually fix their online booking tool. That infuriates me.

Update - exchange info Puerto Penasco / Rocky Point

Just a clarification update on exchange company affiliation for : GM PP

Grand Mayan Puerto Penasco - Vidanta has this Grand Mayan location exchangeable through II ( Intervals International ) I just noticed a Vidanta news release from Feb 2016 that gave this information .

I believe the Mayan Palace is with RCI

Through RCI you can now do a max of 2 Vidanta/ Mayan exchanges(all resorts) per year and only one can be in " high season " Detaiis on RCI
Good news - no more -1 in 3 rule ( for now ) This change was mid June 2016

****
Sometimes : at some Vidanta locations , the "wristband / presentation booking folks " have done MP to GM upgrades in return for going to a sales presentation .

Is it worth it to ask - your call .
It gets you the GM - Lazy River and pool

.
