So was thinking of a trip to Ritz Carlton St. Thomas in January 2026, specifically for 5 nights, starting on a Sunday, using abound points.
1) is there much availability?
2) what are my chances of reserving a 2 bedroom?
3) whats the weather like during January, or is there a better month, weather-wise?
4) any hints on reserving?

V hard to get into. And if you do, may be broken up. This was one of our target locations for this year. And we only got Nov 16-19 (2br). Alas we won't even be able to use it, so are trying to give it to some friends.

2br is easiest.

Low season is hurricane season. January is nice.

The only person I've known that's been successful for a high demand week was somebody that called at the earliest possible moment.

Good luck.

There was a mini dump earlier this week for next summer [June/July/August].
We booked a couple of 3BR units for the July 4th week.
There were a few 2BR units available too.

The 2BR-Suites [slightly smaller 6-People / Fewer DCP] are more likely to be available over the Full-2BR units [6-People].

We have stayed numerous times over the last 10 years.
Prior to the big hurricane that hit, all residents of the Suites were given free breakfast [due to smaller kitchen].
After the hurricane hit the restaurant was shutdown. After they re-opened they never reinstated the free breakfast.
Last 2 times we were there [2019/2021] the beach was still bad with excessive weeds.

It's not impossible as units do show up [albeit infrequently].
We have been successful by checking at exactly 13 months out.
Definitely better chances than Ritz Aspen.

What are the differences between 2br vs 2br suites? Do either have washer/dryer? Is it just full kitchen vs mini kitchen & size?

Both are lovely, both have W/Ds, and we found (perhaps unsurprisingly) that the Suite's kitchenette to be the nicest and most well equipped we've ever experienced.

To us the biggest downside of the Suite is that the master bedroom is separated from the living area by frosted glass French doors which allow light and sound to pass through freely.

It is my understanding that this property releases inventory for MVC owners six months in advance (unless that has changed). A quick check and there was nothing in January. You might try to get wait listed. I believe the rooms are two and three bedroom. The weather is perfect in January. The resort is beautiful but I'm not a big fan of the beach which is too rocky for me. There are other beautiful beaches nearby but you will need a car. Service is definitely "Ritz" quality. St Thomas is a great place to vacation. Good luck.

We were able to get 6 days there and a week at Frenchmen's Reef in March a few years ago but it wasn't easy (and the complexities of the latter part of the pandemic may have helped). There isn't much of a beach at the timeshare but the hotel beach is nice, and accessible by short walk from the timeshares. Frenchmen's is nice, too, but can seem a bit overcrowded. It is too bad the beach and pools at the Westin are no longer available to timeshare guests.
