Is there any system to trade a week in a Marriott Vacation Club for a Ritz week? Seems like there would be given the shared Marriott ownership:shrug:

I believe our sales rep told us we would have to convert to points and use those points for Ritz stays. He convinced a previous customer to not purchase a Ritz vacation club property and instead buy multiple Marriott vacation club properties to subsequently convert to points. Those points could then be used to purchase hotel stays at a Ritz. This plan saved the customer a LOT of money (hundreds of thousands), according to the sales rep.

That is doubtful as a the Ritz costs about $200k and gets you at least 2 weeks.

Ritz Carlton - Jupiter Florida
$210,000 asking price
$18,600 annual dues

This family home has two master suites, maid service, and many other amenities. This is a 35-day ownership; you may purchase extra nights for only $100.00 per night. Price just reduced $40,000 below market at the Ritz Carlton. There are five weeks available, asking $40,000 per week.

----------------------

Steamboat Bill math -

$200,000 ($10,000 lost opportunity costs at 5%) + $18,600 dues / 35 nights = $817.14 per night and that assumes that you will use all 35 nights.

My advice is - rent a week you are interested in from a variety of web sites for about $4,000 per week and the owner will still be loosing $1,00 on the rental.

I have not heard that Marriott points were usable for purchasing stays at Ritz properties, has anybody actually done this?

You can use Marriott Reward points at Ritz Carlton

There could be some confusion here due to the fact you CAN use Marriott Reward points to stay at a Ritz Carlton hotel/resort ... but NOT at the Ritz Carlton Clubs or Residences. In addition, while you can use MR points you can't earn them at at Ritz Carlton. It takes 175,000 MR points for a 7 night stay in a Tier 1 RC and 250,000 MR points for a 7 night stay at a Tier 2 RC.

Here are the details.

There are often off seasonal PointSavers promotions too to save a few points at some RC resorts, at the 190k and 140k levels. Still pricey but it's a Ritz:

Ritz Carlton Clubs in some locations are nearing the $1 million mark for fractional ownership, and some of the Residences are considerably higher. Ahhhh .... the good life. :)

That's exactly what the rep told us. Since Ritz Carlton Club properties are so expensive, it was a better deal to purchase multiple (and much less expensive) Marriott vacation club properties to convert to points, which could then be used to purchase Ritz Carlton HOTEL stays.

Compared to a Cat7 Marriott at 130,000 MR points for a week's stay, the PointSavers at a Ritz Carlton hotel might only be 10,000 more MR points. There is a difference IMO if you really want a special stay, and if you were not using a 'air+hotel; package.
