I currently have an Interval exchange for an Island View unit at Westin Kaanapali North.

Is there any downside to retrading that unit on Interval last minute for hopes for a better view?

No downsides since the only options are up. But chances are you will end up with the same and we don’t really know if the resort honors the unit codes as deposited.

Worth a try. I’m here now with an Interval trade. Week deposited was ocean view and they did give me an ocean view room.

I did the retrade. The code on Interval is the same (i.e. DZZAB) so still an Island view.

Did you add the confirmation to Marriott and it provides more details and see if it’s consistent with the code?

This is good information to know to better understand how they are handling unit codes and villa assignments on trades. I like for them to be consistent and it seems they are taking the path that Marriott has at most properties of retaining the view that was on the unit deposited.

I hope that’s true - we have an II retrade into St. Kitt's in a couple of weeks which says oceanfront, so hoping it will actually be that. Unless the sargassum is bad, in which case we may be hoping for the back side! Lol

Daviator…did you get your oceanfront?
Yes! I'd have to look at the map to tell you the name of the building we were in – but it was, IIRC, the second building back from the ocean, on the right hand side as you look at the sea. We were on the second (top) floor, we overlooked the shuffleboard courts and had a direct view of the ocean.

The photo is the view from our lanai there. So at least in our case, the II designation was honored.

It looks like Jessup House. I think that was the exact same room we had when I booked a single night for a cruise stop last year.

You are correct. We were basically in the center-left unit (3 BR/2 BA).

Those have got to be some of the most spacious units in the network. No complaints about the room. The pillows were lousy though, lol.

3BR? Then it actually wasn't the room we were in. We only had a 2BR. Still a great unit and as you said, quite large. I suspect they were through the same entry stairs with the villa entry door on each side of the hallway at the top of the stairs. I seem to recall when going up the stairs our unit was on the right. This would be as you are facing the back of the building.

Our room was on the left, orienting the same way. So yes, I think you were probably across the hall.

The layout of those buildings is a bit odd, you can go up the outside stairs and then enter the building on the second floor, or you can go in on the ground floor and take the interior stairs. Given the weather, we quickly learned that it was better to climb the stairs in air conditioning than prolong our stay outside! I suppose that gives them two egresses (for fire safety) without having to have two exits from the units themselves.

I think all the oceanside units are upstairs, and there are no elevators, so anyone with a mobility issue might need to go with a lesser view category.
