My wife and I have about 1,000 restricted points expiring on January 4. I had it explained to me that we can transfer to II, but this does not change the expiring date. My wife believes otherwise; that the points would live on for a time in II.

Just assuming I'm correct, we'd need to get rid of these points fast. I don't want 1,000 points to simply evaporate.

I hate being in this position; my wife's work is important (yes, more important than the points), so we might need to just sacrifice them for cheap. Sedona and San Antonio are about the only places with rooms left. But, heck, maybe that meets someone's needs (we are in California).

Advice, please.

A few questions:

Are these restricted points due to a cancelled reservation?

When is your deeded week?

Can you travel before March 4?

Yes, these are from trips we had to cancel. I think some may have been bonus points as well. We may be able to travel before March 4.

Thank you for your response.

You should be able to book these point for travel by March 4 if they’re under a sixty day restriction. Highlands Inn has a lot of availability between now and March 4. That’s been my go to in the past when I had LCUP points to use.

I would call Hyatt about transferring the RCUP points to EEE if that is your preference. If you meet the normal requirements to transfer them as CUP you should be able to transfer them to EEE and get the extra time(2 years) to book in II.

They are under a 60 day restriction, but I think the reservation has to start on or before January 4.

I think that means anything within 60 days from the date of expiration. So March 4. Give it a try.

The example I think of are my EEE points. I can book anything that’s bookable in II until the points expire. It doesn’t matter what the expiration date is until they actually expire.

Check your online account to see if the points are RCUP (not expired but restricted) vs LCUP (double secret probation).

Since you did not tell us your owned week, we are guessing. But it sounds like you are week 1 and the points should be RCUP. If that is the case you have to BOOK by 1/4. A HRC/HPP reservation has to start before or around 3/4.

With week 1 points you would be past moving them to EEE - which is 4 months before week 1 and would extent the points life - so you have to use them before they expire. BUT you can make an Interval reservation if they are RCUP - you have to book by 1/4 but you don't have any limitation on how far out you can book - whatever you can see. LCUP cannot be used for Interval.

I checked, and thank goodness you are correct. I'm very relieved.

We now have a 3 day in Carmel on Valentine's weekend. We were in San Francisco for the NBA ASG already, so it's perfect. Wife already had that Monday and Tuesday off.

You've been very helpful, and I appreciate your help.

If you can get those points into II, do so immediately.

Make a reservation as far in the future as you're allowed. Preferably something you like. But at this point, that isn't a requirement. Pay for "e-plus" protection for your week. Now you can change it three times and have many months to do so. (I think it's 2 full years. But I never do this. I just use my exchanges, regardless. I'd have to be coughing up a lung to cancel a vacation.)

E plus let's you cancel and book something else. So that's as good as an extension. And it costs like $90.

Happy to be of assistance. The biggest thing about Hyatt is learning the rules.

I am not a fan of the recent changes. I like Scoop Kona’s use of II for value. I’m doing something similar.

Enjoy the NBA ASG. I’m going to the Chase Center for the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight in March. And enjoy Carmel.
