We are heading to Liberty Place for a few nights next month as part of week split between Charleston and Hilton Head. This will be our first visit to Charleston and really looking forward to it. I was curious if anyone had recommendation on places to eat near Liberty Place. I found a few fine dining places, and am making reservations for those. We should arrive late afteroon on Saturday, I have had mixed results with the airlines this year and am a bit hesitant to make a reservation for Saturday night in case things go sideways... So a place that might work for walk-ins would be particularly interesting.

I can’t help as it’s been years since we’ve visited Charleston, but we are planning a similar trip for next fall. I’m interested to see what fellow Tuggers suggest. You may also want to contact the resort as they likely have a list of recommended restaurants, including some that may provide a discount to resort guests.

Best regards.

Mike

Charleston has a world class food and beverage scene. It's always changing, but I put a list of our favorite restaurants at the bottom. Some of the restaraunts require reservations a month or more in advance. Cocktails and rooftop bars are big here also. Let me know if you have any interest in these.

A good place to start is on Eater. Lots of good information there.

If you are interested in things to do and events, you might check these sites:
Holy City Sinner
Charleston Daily
Charleston City Paper

Breakfast
Ruby Sunshine-offshoot of Ruby Slippers chain in NOLA
Millers All Day

BBQ-these two are world class
Lewis BBQ-Texas style brisket-has a TexMex restaurant (Rancho Lewis) nearby
Rodney Scott-whole hog-James Beard award winner

Steak
Halls Chop House
Oak Steakhouse

Seafood
Hanks-a local favorite, but my experiences there have not been the best
Fleet Landing
Hyman Seafood-mocked by locals for being a tourist trap, but has decent seafood at value prices
The Ordinary
167 Raw

Southern
Magnolias
High Cotton-my favorite restaurant downtown

Others
SNOB (Slightly North of Broad)
Husk
FIG

Thanks for the list, some of the those were already on my radar, but some are new and i will check into those.

How are the lines at the two BBQ places at meal time? I know some BBQ places around the country end up with long lines.

Thanks in advance.

Go to Paige's Okra Grill for breakfast/brunch in Mt Pleasant - it's a short car ride from Liberty Place. Amazing food - just be prepared to wait if you don't have a reservation (or get there early)

Food scene in general in Charleston is spectacular so a lot of recommendations would depend on what type of food you like or want to eat and roughly what you want to spend per person for an entree.

For Lewis and Rodney Scott, I would avoid Friday evening and meal times on Saturday. You can order take out online for Lewis. Rodney Scott also has takeout from its catering menu with a minimum (if your group is large enough).

My suggestions were limited to the 'peninsula'. If you want to go further afield, there are lots of other choices.

One addition to my list would be The CODfather. Best fish and chips I've ever had. Gets busy especially around lunch and on the weekends.

Thanks!. Think I have more good options than I have meals to eat... But thats a good thing

Just to follow-up, we really enjoyed Lewis BBQ, and Halls Chop House. I think Halls was probably the best meal of the trip, both the food and service were outstanding. We should have gone with your suggestion for High Cotton.. We tried Poogans Porch for southern, and it was just OK..

Overall our trip to Charleston and Hilton Head were great.. Not sure when, but we definitely plan to return to Charleston.

Liberty Place was really nice, we would stay there again.

thanks. headed there next month. How much was parking?
High Cotton is on our list. Anyone have suggestions for Classic Charleston cuisine and/or grilled seafood with good sauces. We live on the coast so we get lots of basic good seafood like at Hymans.

The parking is Valet only, and runs just over $19 per day. In our experience the service was good and they always had the car ready when we go down to the pickup.
