When I was at Crystal Shores, the upper main pool was closed for the 2 week duration of our stay. Therefore there was a major shortage of pool chairs. Despite providing a letter at checkin stating that all towels on unattended chairs would be removed at 10am and if left over 45 minutes later in the day, there was absolutely no enforcement of these rules. Anyone who arrived at the pool after 10:30 was out of luck. I saw people putting towels on several chairs at dawn (7:30) and never showing up until after noon. Several people reserved 4+ chairs and only used two. Since I usually arrive early and stay there, perhaps I can earn extra money by keeping track of the policy abusers so their security can do their job.

One of the comments is just "chefs kiss":
If you 719 rooms and less pool chairs than that, the article indicated 675, then I think you have basically a Titanic situation. The owners of the venue can argue all day long that it isn't feasible or reasonable to have that many chairs but if I paid for a room and use of the pool I had better have a seat available when I choose to use the pool, one for every person in each room I'm being charged. If you want to verify my room # and # of people staying with me fine but beyond that there shouldn't be any other discussion. Either that or you set times that different rooms can use the pool and make that clear in your advertising. I get the part where one person claiming 13 chairs seems outrageous, but if they are paying for 6-7 rooms each with two persons per room then they really shouldn't hear a peep about it.

It's like they've never had the idea of a shared space or something. My suggestion is to go in shoulder season. The pool's perfectly nice right now in Orlando, and there's like 5 people in it at most. There is 0 contention for chairs, and it's still sunny etc... If you MUST have a chair available every day all day long, now is perfect! No one is going to complain IMO.

"A Titanic" situation. LOL That's some serious hyperbole.

Your experience Sounds liked my many, many experiences on cruise ships. Drop your towel or a book on a chair by the pool at 6:30am and do not return until noon.

You could be the self appointed pool chair bouncer !!! I've moved items off chairs that were unattended for hours. A couple of times I laid on the new towel and waited. No one ever showed up. It might have been entertaining if they did.

It hasn't been as much of an issue in our stays over the last 2-3 years, but at Maui Ocean Club, I used to go for walks on the beach real early with my daughter, around 7am. Walk through the pool area - nobody in the pool, but towels on the prime chairs. I was more than happy to return the towels to the dirty bin before we hit the beach.

Rather than enforcing pool chair policies, many luxury resorts are expanding their 'reserved for fee' sections. I first observed this at the JW Phoenix Desert Springs several years ago, and the section has expanded to include one pool and a large section of Lazy River. These fees are in addition to high resort fees. At some point, many of us not on expense account will refuse to pay and find someplace else to stay.

A few of us have moved the unattended chairs with towels to other locations. When someone finally showed up and asked if someone took their towels, we truthfully said 'No'.

I just move the stuff. I’d love to see someone argue in favor of what they did. I usually set their stuff right by the sign that explains the policy.

You have to watch your expenses once you unemployed..

I do occasionally rent a cabana, or the fancy lounger sections at a resort but only when I a planning for pretty long pool day.

More often than not i just want to go hit the pool for an few hours, then those fees really seem like a lot on a per hour basis.

LOL, we will never touch another person stuff on a cruise ship or at a resort. I’m afraid of another person drama.

I like to water walk in the pool as soon as it opens in the morning at the clubhouse pool at Marriott Villas I in Palm Desert, CA. The last time I was there there was a man that arrived when the pool opened and started moving all the furniture around getting 3 umbrellas, 4 lounge chairs and 4 or 5 small tables. It was so frustrating to see him rearranging all the equipment that the employees had just cleaned and arranged. The man would add towels to the lounge chairs and go back to his unit. He didn't return until about 2 hours later with his friends and they kept an area of the pool all to themselves all day long. I know this because our unit overlooked the pool. The employees saw this but no one approached them or said anything. What a selfish group of people!

These types haven't earned the truth, but.....

"Did you move our towels?"

"Oh, there were no towels on the lounges when we put ours down. They have a policy to remove towels if people leave them unattended." All technically true.

As much as I dislike unoccupied lounges with stuff on them for stretches of time that go over the posted limit, I would rather the resort do their job and enforce whatever rules they establish. When I leave my lounge chair to go in the water, I often put my shorts under the towel that is laid out on the chair with my wallet and phone. I normally am well aware of my time away from a chair because of this but between the beach, pool and sometimes going to the room, I occasionally go beyond the time limit. If this happens and I have no problem with my stuff being removed when it does, I I want security removing my stuff. It shouldn't be some random person who wants to enforce the rules putting my valuables at greater risk somewhere else.

A bigger pet peeve for me is when someone parks in an area with the wrong parking pass, parks on the line or parks taking up two spots and there are no other parking stops in the area. If a guest moving potential valuables becomes fair game, does keying the above mentioned car (rhetorical question) ?

Heading to Koolina tomorrow let the chair wars begin. I try to get our chair by 7am.
How was the towel situation at KoOlina? How much are their cabanas? We are heading there in a few weeks, so thanks for any information or tips you can pass our way.

For that man, I have the perfect solutions:

Both products work well on pool towels.
