Have all of the resorts except Perigrine reopened? I know 4 Seasons on the Gulf is open [and was last summer]. Also Escapes! to the Gulf and Seaside are open.

The worst damage to Galveston was on the east side of the island. All timeshare resorts are located on the west side. Although the entire island was heavily damaged, impact to the west side was much less severe. I live in Houston near the NASA Johnson Space Center. The eye of Hurricane Ike passed directly over my house. It was quite an experience! All of the gardens and vegetation at my house were completely shredded, the fences were all blown down, and a significant number of shingles were blown off my roof. We had water damage inside due to heavy rain that accompanied the storm. It took a lot of effort to get everything back together but we are mostly finished and in good shape.

During the last year we have spent a lot of time helping others in Galveston repair damage from the storm. Last weekend I was in Galveston and there is a lot of tourist activity that has returned to the island. Although there is still damage, the timeshares facilities appear to be back to normal. I would not avoid Galveston because of Ike. Most of the major work that would affect visitors has been corrected. Perigrine of course is the exception but it is not actually in Galveston. Perigrine is about 25 miles west of the direct impact. Ike was a pretty bad storm.
