Reserved our seats for trip to Hawaii. Have questions about timing the return.

Once when I was at SFO (yes, the airport), someone asked me for directions to "Frisco". I told him he needed to catch a plane to DFW. I realized later that he could have also taken a plane to Denver.
 
Is there a reason you are so offended by abbreviations.?
To me, none of them seem offensive.
 
Rick's brother lived in San Francisco until his death, and he was very annoyed by the city being referred to as Frisco. Rick happened to tell him we have a timeshare in Frisco. The week happened to start that very day of the conversation, and we were about ready to leave. We needed to get the car packed to head up. Ronnie was offended, and Rick said, "Why are you offended by Frisco?" Ronnie went on to explain that Rick should never call his city Frisco, meaning San Francisco, it was infuriating. Rick said, 'We are going to FRISCO in Colorado this evening to stay in our timeshare week."

Ronnie apologized, but Rick might have called San Francisco "Frisco" a few times after that, and Ronnie would laugh about it. Lighten up on the Frisco thing, Brother!

As a second generation native Californian (even though I don't live there now) hearing Frisco or Cali is like scratching on a chalkboard. Don't ask me why, it just is.

How would a New Yorker like their state called "Newy"? Or a Coloradan hear "Colly"? :cool:

New York has lots of nicknames - none bother me.
I guess the 4 syllable names lends to shortening?
But then Colorado is 4?

NIcknames, or shortened versions? I have no problem with some of the nicknames, like the Golden State.

Time is not a renewable commodity. Don't waste your life being offended by these little things.
 
Back on track with the point of this thread....

I've made back up points reservation for Palm Desert. We've stayed there in the fall. I want to see it in the Spring. Won't know for a few more days what award availability will show up for flights.
 
Next trip to Hawaii is from Germany to San Francisco, CA, :D, two days in SFO for the Super Bowl weekend. Return is a day flight HNL to SFO and next day to Germany. Not the first time we are doing this.

Yep, I'm from SoCal. Not worried about offending NorCals.

Very commonly used in both locales, to refer to both locales.

I've never actually heard (or read) of anyone who lives in Northern California use "NorCal". However, "SoCal" I have heard from people who live in both areas.
 
Indeed, using acronyms is currently a common practice in internet communication. It doesn't matter as long as everyone understands what is intended. I frequently see "SFO" or "LAX"; it's more a matter of habit than anything else.

I lived in the greater bay area from 1973 until 2015, saw Ronnie several times in small clubs in SF, he was a native son and well known (as you know), so it's understandable he would get a burr in his saddle about Frisco. I still just call SF The City and I still play his debut album often.
 
I have lived in San Francisco for more than a quarter century.

You can call it SF. You can call it San Fran, although I’ll lose respect for you for your laziness.

If you call it Frisco, I’ll block you. Life's too short to deal with such nonsense or with people who choose to be disrespectful after being told that they are doing so.
