I stupidly agreed to a Royal Resorts Points Membership while at the Grand Residences in Cancun on May 30. I immediately felt such regret that I poured over the contract and the internet to find a way out. I found the cancelation Claude, the Mexican law of 5 day cool down period, and this site.

I sent 4 rescind letters via USPS registered mail as I am back in the states and still within the rescission period. The contract said to send it to the place of transaction or the office of "the company". At the end of the contract it states that "the company" is Hacienda Real del Mar S.A. de C.V with an address. That's the correct address right?? I sent two to that address, and two to the Resort I bought it at in case they get lost. I also sent and email notice to the email address of Hacienda Real del Mar with a cc to PROFECO.

Am I going to be ok? Is this enough? Should I send out more emails or letters? According to the contract I have until Thursday to rescind. Please the anxiety is eating me up inside. Should I involve my credit card company too?

Hi @sheepish234
Welcome to TUG

It sounds like you have covered your bases.
I would contact your credit card company to advise them.

Please be aware that while the resort is required to process your rescind - they are not required to give you updates.

Thank you for responding! I will call my credit card company today to tell them what's going on.

The Royal Resorts were purchased by Holiday Inn Club Vacations a year ago, so if you bought into the point system it was their system. The original RR point system no longer exists. I would also send a letter to HICV or at least call them to find out exactly where to send it.
FYI we have owned at the RR since 1991, but we own fixed weeks not points

Small update for my own sake:
Three of my letters have made it to Mexico City just now. One has been stuck in my local post office for 4 days now smh
Hoping with every fiber of my being that they get delivered this coming week.

Two of my letters are being sent back to me. They were sent to the address stated in the contract, I made sure to write that address out word for word... the two sent to the Resort I bought it at are still in transit but I am definitely worried now.

just retain the proof that the letters were sent within the time allowed to the address in the contract should any dispute arise and they tell you they wont honor the rescission etc.

Back again for another update. I disputed the charges with my cc company on July 10th. I got the $155 monthly payment back same day, just waiting on the initial deposit of $2901. I gave them all my proof so fingers crossed.

All of my letters are being returned to me so I will be filing a complaint with PROFECO and sending them all the info as well. If the dispute doesn't go in my favor I'm going to cancel the card and eat the loss. I have my proof of canceling on time. It's really suspicious that the address in the contract is undeliverable tbh. This has been the worst experience and I'm so put off from ever attempting to vacation again. The was my first trip and the lesson has been learned. I'll update again if something happens

As I previously said HICV now owns the RR. You purchased their product, so I would have sent a letter to them also!!

Wouldn't that have been in the cancelation clause of the contract though? To send a letter to where the transaction took place, the office of "the company", or HICV? The only mention of HICV in any of the paper work was about where I could use the points

You did not buy RR points. They don’t exist anymore. To do a cya I would have sent it to HICV.

This is gonna be my last update.
I got a call last week from my sales rep saying that her supervisor told her about the email I sent almost 2 months ago. She tried selling me on something different but I said no and wanted it canceled. She said they could do it but I wouldn't get a refund because it's so late. I explained everything and she said she'll see what she can do.
Cut to today, I have an email confirming its been canceled and a refund on my cc. The dispute I opened is still pending so I'll be calling my cc company to let them know it's been settled. I'm gonna cancel the card for a new one just to be safe.
Thank you to everyone who responded and to everyone on this site for the information. This lesson is not one I'll forget and if I do travel again I'll be better prepared.

Saved a total of 11k.

Thanks again
