I just attempted to use leftover StarOptions for 2024 to purchase the Travel Insurance through TravelEx

I was informed that StarOptions from VOI's from Mandatory Resorts purchased in the resale market are not eligible to be used for the purchase of Travel Insurance

This is the first I heard of the StarOptions having this restriction

I escalated the issue and was told that the rule had been implemented at the time the program to use StarOptions to purchase Travel Insurance was put in place

So be aware

I'm not really surprised by this.

Resale SOs at mandatory resorts are not completely equal to SOs derived from an enrolled VOI. They are mandatory because of what's in the deeds/CC&Rs for those properties, and they can be used to exchange via VSN, but they don't have to gain access to other uses which were not contemplated when those resorts were developed. I would not expect MVC to bestow additional uses or benefits on resale purchasers if they don't have to.

Can resale SOs be banked or borrowed? Can they be used for Resort Credit? I'd expect the answer might be no, but I have never owned an unenrolled VOI so I don't know the answer.

It's been discussed on here before and it's in the T&C for Resort Credits etc. that the SO have to come from developer or requalified purchases.

Yeah resale options can really only be used for reservations. Nothing more. Resale Abound club points or club point from resale VOIs don’t have this restriction.
