Repositioning Cruises

To the OP on a transatlantic Cruise IMHO is the ideal time to enjoy the many speciality restaurants on a cruise ship.

Look for discount deals on the specialty restaurants.

Please just enjoy the transatlantic experience.

Cruise lines- noting that repositioning cruises are already great bargains, have drastically reduced or eliminated perks like drink packages, pre-paid tips, internet, so be prepared to pay or seek out alternatives.

If your choice is between NCL Star or Epic... go Epic!

Each cruiseline has it’s own flavor and we like NCL, however, we’d vote Celebrity Silli, but everyone is different with what they are looking for in a cruise. We’ve been on most of them and love them all.

On the other hand, before you book Epic, Google "norwegian epic bathrooms" and read all about them. View the cabin layout. Cabins are strangely shaped. They have enough storage for two people, but not really for three.

Other than that we liked the food in O'Sheehan's for breakfast and lunch, also the asian restaurant -- Shanghai? -- which wasn't a surcharge. Don't order lobster if offered; $30, tiny, awful, and no refunds.

The beverage package is OK if it's a perk. Otherwise it's at least $65 per day, plus 20% gratuity. (You usually have to still pay the gratuity if it's a perk. For me, even $13 a day was too much! And Norwegian insists that all over-21 passengers in the cabin buy it if anyone does.) If a beverage package is important to you, Celebrity's starts at $45 plus 18% per day.

Norwegian prohibits you from bringing ANY beverage onboard, even water, either at embarcation or at ports.

... and we tend to get inside cabins and use the savings for another cruise. Not as wonderful but keeps us cruising plenty!

We do too! We took 3 seven day Caribbean cruises for very close to the same price as our neighbours paid for 1 seven day Caribbean cruise! I don't think we had any less of a better time, perhaps more because they were afraid to get off the ship in a few ports so they looked at it from their balcony!

I also take empty water bottles and fill one for each of us with juice at breakfast. I also take single serve drink mix packages to add to the free water. We are not big soda or alcohol drinkers so the drink package doesn't make sense for us.

A repositioning cruise (out of, or into, England) is on our bucket list!

just a year ago we took perhaps our favorite. 4 days in London, then Southampton to Boston, overnight in Manhattan, so we saw 'Beautiful', Bermuda, Bahamas, & final in Miami. On Silhouette. Our third on that ship.

OK, we committed to Norwegian Epic 4/27/2019 Port Canaveral to Barcelona, cabin BF.
Now I will be learning from Tuggers as well as CruiseCritic how to handle myself on 15 day transatlantic voyage and what to add on once we land in Barcelona. Sooo excited!

We saw Beautiful in London west end a few years ago when it premiered, took my wife for her birthday, it was one of her best birthdays ever, she loves Carole King.
