Where is the best place to rent DVC points? David’s? I was hoping some would be listed here but don’t see any at all. Unless I’m doing it wrong. Thanks for any insights you can provide.

Rent/trade board of www.disboards.com is usually cheaper than DVC Rental Store or Davids.

Cheaper? Can you do a little synopsis as to how disboards works for rentals. I have been a member of disboards for many years, same username that I have on TUG. I used to rent there but it became a referral site for David's.

How does it work now? I get $20 per point from DVC Rental Store. I am pretty happy with that. I would love to get more, but I don't think it's all that possible.

I have had about 15 rentals through DVC Rental Store over the last 7 months.

So the disboards rent/trade board is free for all members looking to receive a rental, and free to members looking to sell a rental who post enough and are in good standing, otherwise they have various yearly membership tiers (that aren’t too expensive). Because there’s no middle-man charging fees, the points tend to be significantly cheaper to rent than on Davids or DVC Rental Store. Depending on what kinds of points they are, whether or not they are distressed, etc., they generally tend to go somewhere between $17 and $22 per point. If they are very distressed (holding points, etc), you sometimes see them for cheaper, and I’m seeing some listings at $23 per point for the premium resorts, but I don’t think those are getting any bites right now. That is the amount the owner actually receives, and the amount the renter actually pays, since there’s no markup.

As someone who is receiving the rental, there’s obviously a little more risk since you’re having to trust the poster you are renting from. I‘ve used it several times throughout the years to receive transfers and have never had an issue.

And as to how it works, there are two ways:

1. An owner posts they have X points available for rent as the OP of a thread. People who would like to rent those points then respond to the thread and post the dates and resorts they are interested in. The owner then checks those dates, and, if available, makes the reservation for the renter. Once the Confirmation & contract is sent to the renter (assuming we’re outside of holding penalty period), the renter then signs contract, sends payment, and the rental is complete. If you’re within the holding penalty period than an owner is going to ask for payment and contract upfront.
2. If you are less than, I believe 60 days out, an owner is allowed to post a confirmed reservation for rent as the op of a thread.

Like @kanerf I recommend the DVC rental store. Once upon a time I rented out some points through David's but over the years they have become more and more hostile to owners. In particular their latest contract (I was looking at renting out some VGC points a few weeks ago) stipulated that by giving them the ability to rent out my points, I couldn't rent them out myself or through another broker, I had to allow them to rent as many or few as they desired, and I had to allow them to try to rent them until the points expired without possibility of cancellation. While I might have been able to renegotiate some or all of these aspects of their contract I had no interest in bothering.

In contrast, the DVC rental store is easy peasy. You see the reservations that people want, you claim the listing, they send you the renter's details, and then you make the reservation. You get most of the money 'immediately' and the rest after check-in.

Lastly, I've never rented out enough points to make the difference in price worth dealing with finding, verifying, and negotiating with a private buyer. Obviously, YMMV as it does for many owners.

Cheaper for the person paying for the rental. Not necessarily better for the person doing the renting, but it can be.

I’ve never rented out my points….alway use every last one or bank them. I have purchased resale thru The Timeshare Store, but they have been changing their name over to DVCstore.com. They also have confirmed reservations for rent. I am looking right now at a confirmed reservation for a one bedroom at Bay Lake Tower, theme park view (the most expensive view) check in on 3/15/25 check out on 3/21/25 $6,080. They claim the same type reservation booked thru Disney would cost you $10,047. I’m just posting this as an example. They have a variety of confirmed reservations at different resorts for studios also.

They were great to work with A few years ago…but have never dealt with them for rentals.

edited to add: the one bedrooms at Bay Lake Tower sleep 5 (2 in the master and 3 in the living area) and have 2 full baths (a very spacious master bath and a normal tub/shower combination in the second. Animal Kingdom Lodge has the same set up but is really far from 3 of the 4 parks, but a beautiful resort. Bay Lake is in the middle of a major Reno .

I'll note that I've bought/sold thru The Timeshare Store//DVCstore.com over the past 15 years a number of times-reputable, no issues. Elaine
