Have been looking for a Marriott timeshare at another resort (then one where I own) to rent at Redweek and see that a broker has several listings for Marriott propertie. Says he’s been a member for 10 years. I’ve looked for reviews on him and found nothing except for this which has the name of his company - https://www.redweek.com/forums/messages?thread_id=20270&message_id=70342&query=Jwb vacations#fm70342. Redweek says they havent had any fraud complaints about him.

What is the best way for me to find out if he's legit - ask for a copy of the confirmed reservation at the resort? Plan to ask him to give me the name of the owner so I can check the reservation with Marriott, if he refuses, Wd that be a red flag? Thank you!

Thanks, @DeniseM! I thought I already read those tips but had a good read of the entire thread again and saw how valuable all the additional tips were! Thanks @TUGBrian for the numerous bumps over the years, no one can be too careful. It’s almost like a game where you have to keep trying to outwit the scammers from the latest schemes out there. Hopefully it all checks out and we’ll hv a happy ending of a memorable family vacay!

Did you get a chance to read the Redweek link, did anything make you think something didn’t sound right? I thought the few good feedback was encouraging but then again, what if those were planted? I wd def hv to ask for a recent references that I cd verify if this guy is really as busy as he makes himself to be.

When I rent out a week, I ask for a small deposit, (less than 10%) and send the guest certificate in the renters name and allow them 3 days to call (resort) and confirm themselves the reservation before they pay the balance. Not implying your dealing with a fraudster, but I don't know how one can be 100% safe from fraudsters. I don;t give those positive feedback much weight, just too easily manipulated.

Is the listing Verified and Protected by Redweek? I believe that gives you some additional protection.

Problem with the verified and protect is that it comes with a significant mark up in price from redweek. I've seen ads with more than a 10% markup, the markup is both tax and service fee.

Good point...my experience renting my weeks out on Redweek is I always use V&P and normally successfully book all weeks. There must be an audience for it is my conclusion. I've never understood folks who venmo/paypal/zelle strangers thousands of dollars with little recourse if something goes awry but this is just me...I am NOT passing judgement on anyone who rents differently

I'm very happy with Redweek's "Verified and Protected" approach as it protects both the owner and the renter. I actually like the idea of Redweek collecting the rent upfront and holding it until after check-in before remitting to me. I also like that Redweek collects and pays over local taxes and resort fees thus relieving me of this.

Of course, the owner can go solo on this, have a flexible payment schedule, worry about collecting, collect and pay over the taxes (or not), etc. They can even evade the taxes and give the renter a break and assume the risk (bad idea). Should the transaction go bad, Redweek follows the contract.

By the way, today Redweek deposited $6,500 for rentals started last Saturday. Great confidence in the Redweek approach.
