"Renting" HGV Points?

I see people posting that they want to "rent" points. What does this refer to? We have rented our HGV unit several times but renting the points is foreign to me. How does one do this and is it "legal" with the timeshare properties? Thanks for any assistance in understand this concept.

In the past, it was possible to transfer your points to another owner via a 3-way phone call. No fee was charged. People (especially on FB) were notoriously asking to "rent" points that way. Hilton (maybe 4 years ago?) nixed that ability in its entirety, although some people still aren't aware that the option no longer exists. I'm guessing that's what they are referring to.

Although it's also possible that they are referring to renting a points/club booking instead of a homeweek, which technically is prohibited (the club/points bookings aren't technically allowed to be rented). Homeweek reservations *can* be rented, so far.

Embarc allows "rentals" for points, (or simply the rental of any Embarc booking, by adding a guest name) between members. It's not direct and does involve a 3 point phone call.
It requires an existing booking to which the "rented" points can be transfered and once done, the points of the person with the original booking return to their account to be used again.
We have a very active, private FB group (must be an Embarc member) which allows members to do this. It allow members to get extra points (at cost) for travel for a specific year(s) without have to buy more membership points permanently. The person offering the points can get their fees paid directly by the renter or through a fund transfer between the 2 involved.
Cost is $35usd per transaction.
Adding a guest to an existing booking is free and can be done online.
