I did submit a reservation request for Maui April 7-14 for a midsize with a second driver (not a spouse). They came back with $569.65 total including the second driver with Alamo. That's about $30 less than Costco right now.

I used Discount the last few trips and was surprised it beat Costco both times. The cheapest car rentals I find are when I'm also buying airline tickets, that seems to offer the best pricing when bundled with the airfare.
For our 2 week stay this past Oct, I booked a car with Costco 9 months out and waited. Then starting around 3 months out I checked weekly for the next several weeks, re-booking as the price beat the last booking, cancelling the higher rate reservation.
Then approximately 2 months prior I began checking twice a day, once in the morning, once at the end of the work day. The prices on Costco would change that often. Again as I found it down from my previous reservation, I re-booked and canceled the old, even when it only dropped a couple $. Approximately 2 - 3 weeks prior to the trip, rates shot up and didn't come back down.
The end result was we ended up saving roughly $500 from our original booking & more than $200 than what the prices ended up in the last two weeks.
It took approximately 5 minutes of my time each day checking this and was fun.
Today I submitted a bid on Priceline for 2 weeks in Maui Jan 2013 at $18 per day for a Mid Size car.. It was accepted. I cancelled my reservation at Discount Hawaii car rental that was for $63.00 greater
