Is it usually much more expensive to rent a car at the Boston airport than
in other major cities in New England? We will not be staying
in Boston. We are thinking of flying into Boston and
drive to the timeshare resort.

Thanks in advance!

I usually take the T to the Aquarium and rent at Government Center. Much cheaper and it is only one or two stops on the T to Govment Center from Logan. Using the Costco travel site use pick up car in a city, use zip code 02110 and then check the rates.

It's almost always cheaper to go to an off-airport car rental location. For E. Mass, we have flown (Southwest) into Providence and taken a taxi to an off airport Budget location. Both moves saved beaucoup bux.

Thank you for that reminder.

I have a trip to Austin in October and found the rates high, even through Costco from the airport. I was able to save $200 by booking it for pickup at a location near the state capital. The Metro Airport bus gets me within two blocks of the Avis location, with a 20 minute ride for $1. Even better the rental has me returning the car at the airport!

For $200 savings, I can ride an airport bus for a half-hour or less and walk two blocks.

(Heck I don't even have to sit through an owners update to get it!!!)

We've got that $1 fare beat. As far as I know, it's a free fare from BOS to downtown Boston on the "T". As I live here, I can't help with rental cars. Never needed one in Boston.

We shopped around a lot, and ended up getting a great rate through Costco for a 3-week deal on a Budget car at Logan airport. We booked the best thing we found, kept looking occasionally, booked a better deal when we found one, and repeated the process a few times.

The only non-stop flight choice for us is to fly into Boston. But the cheapest rental car rate I could find was $750 for 2 weeks at the Boston airport. That was almost two times of the rate when renting at other major metropolitan areas such as the Salt Lake city airport or Los Angeles. The Budget car rental rate at the Boston airport is $933 for 2 weeks! The Budget rate is only $391.80 at the CAMBRIDGE, MA location. (Is this location near a public transportation stop.)

We would like to rent a car from a non-airport location, but we need to find out which ones are located near public transportation stops originating from the airport.

Can anyone tell me which (if any) rental car locations are located next to a public transportation stop? We need specific addresses, if possible. (Note, we are totally unfamiliar with Boston, and we will be lugging a lot of luggage, so the rental car agency has to be almost next to the transit stop.)

Also, we will have a lot of large luggage with us, does the Metro or "T" have accommodations for luggage, or do we just throw it in an empty passenger seat?

Thank you for your help

The Blue Line from the airport has some luggage space. It would be advisable to travel non-rush hour, if possible. If you take T to Aquarium station, there is National office 1 block down on Atlantic Avenue. This location would also offer easy access onto interstate and out of Boston. I learned to drive in NYC and have been driving in Boston for over 30 years but cannot imagine what it must be like for tourists to drive here.

Will ask again, what resort are you driving to ? This will help us help you. Are you taking the car out of Massachusetts ?
Thanks.

We will be driving to Lincoln, NH from Boston. We may take the car to the part of White Moutain in Maine too.

Thanks.

The National Rental office on Atlantic Ave would put you directly at entrance of I 93 north which is straight shot to Lincoln NH
You could also try Thrifty which is off site at Logan. The shuttle bus would take you there and then you old proceed north from there. But my guess is they are considered import location.

Thanks !
Have you thought of flying into Manchester, N.H. ? It would probably be cheaper for flights and car rentals.

Check flights to MHT code.

The National car rental is at 270 Atlantic Ave. Alamo is also part of National so you can look for your best price from either company at that location.
