I am going to a conference October 27 to 28 in Reno. The conference hotel is Peppermill Hotel and Casino. I am planning to attach a timeshare week before or after the conference.

Google map is confusing me or I am geographically blind. It seems all TS resorts are about an hour drive from this conference hotel.

Is there a timeshare property nearby? If so, which one would you recommend?

Is October a slow month? Is it very cold? Anything to occupy me, besides casino? Any outlet shopping nearby?

Thanks.

You are picking up Lake Tahoe which is an hour and 3-4 thousand feet in elevation difference

Cannot imagine spending a weekin Reno however Lake Tahoe we do annually

October will be cold but no snow yet

The map is correct. As far as I know there is only one TS in Reno and it's not some place you'd want to stay - Celebrity Resort Reno.

The Peppermill is actually a great place to stay - our favorite place in Reno, and they have great rates. We get offers in the mail from them all the time with a "share with a friend" code. It's too early now, but I'd be glad to pass that info. on when the Oct. offers come out.

Oct. is a slow month.

It will be cold and there could definitely be snow - although not like Tahoe.

For your TS week - drive to Tahoe.

I happen to think that Reno is a great little city, but as others have pointed out the timeshares are up in Tahoe. :)

Reno is a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to use a trade week to stay there. :D

If you want to stay in Reno, rent a room there. The one timeshare in Reno is just ok in my book. When we go the area for a week we stay in a timeshare at Tahoe and drive into Reno for the day. Lately I only go to Reno for conferences or events and I rent a room in Reno.

We stayed at Celebrity Resort in Reno and it was pretty grim. they also do nightly rentals to some pretty sketchy characters. We would definitely not stay there again. The city itself is in bad shape. Most of the casinos are closed, so there are lots of stretches along the main street that are boarded up. It was nothing like what we expected.

I own at The Plaza Resort in Reno. It is a GC Resort with good reviews and just a block off the Main Drag. It only has Studio Units for 4/4. The resort is very well maintained and sits along side the Truckee River. There is a new Arts/Crafts/Farmers Place that has recently opened across the street from The Plaza. It is decorated throughout with antiques, has an indoor pool and hot tub. It also has a parking garage along side it. It trades with RCI weeks.

Thanks, everyone.

I will stay in Peppermill for 3 days for the conference and then will take the advice going to South Lake Tahoe to enjoy my peaceful week.

We got snowed in there last February, (due to the snowstorm in the Northeast), and stayed there for 4 days. Found a smoking good deal on the Atlantis Resort Casino in a tower concierge room. Very nice casino, as is the Peppermill. The only issue with those 2 places, are they're a little ways from downtown.

Good call...just stay at a nicer resort, (i.e. Atlantis, Peppermill, El Dorado, or Silver Legacy)

It is kinda of seedy, but fun. Definitely wouldn't waste a TS week, but as long as you stay in a nice resort, you'll be fine. IMO, the nicer places, downtown, are the El Dorado and Silver legacy. They're even connected, so you don't even have to go outside.

We're headed to Tahoe, (today :D ), and we had so much fun, that we're flying in a day early, and booked a room at the El Dorado. Can't wait to sip a craft beer at "Brew Brothers" and watch the Dueling Pianos show at "Rum Bullion"!!!
