Hi. I am very close to buying a timeshare in South Carolina, and am looking for a recommendation for an attorney to effect the transfer. Does anyone have anyone that they'd recommend? Fast, accurate and a reasonable cost is what I am looking for, of course.

Thanks!

I maintain a list organized by state HERE..

I'm sure you'll also get other recommendations.. You just want to make sure that the closing agent you choose is familiar with your specific resort.

Unless I'm missing something, Richard, I'm not sure the Arkansas law firm you list for SC would meet the SC legal requirement that a SC-licensed attorney be involved in all SC real estate closings.

To the OP -

I recommend that you review this thread, which lists several qualified attorneys in the Hilton Head area. I know Peter Wolf, one of the attorneys listed in the thread, and have the highest regard for him, although I have not yet used his services for timeshare closings.

sc atty

I used Daniel P. Zwerner located on Hilton Head 5 years ago (recommended by tugger). I was very happy. Great communication, great staff (Leann, if she is still there). They found out and notified me well before closing that the owner had deposited the 2006 week with RCI (but forgot) and I was able to take care of it (I did not want an RCI banked week, so owner paid maint. fee and knocked additional $ of the purchase price b/c of lack of use for that year--I could have also canceled the sale--but this worked better for us)--unlike many horror stories we have seen on tug. I highly recommend Daniel. Elaine

You might also check with the timeshare you're buying, ask whether there's someone they frequenty use in-house, or recommend - I've bought and sold in SC, and done that.

Good point, and one that always seems to create a lively discussion here :crash: ..

That firm is one that has been recommended to several owners by the actual resorts located in South Carolina (they do some deeding work for a specific brand). In the past I've met one of the partners and I asked him that same question, and he responded that they have relationships which allow them to handle deed preparation in the state, but that they cannot issue title insurance in South Carolina.

Your advice is, as usual, spot on.. Individuals should always take the time to research the choice of closing agent- and the list I help maintain should just be another tool towards that end..

Thanks everyone! Your responses are a great help!

I will make some phone calls as soon as I can. This holdiay thing has me jumping this week!
