Recomendations for thermal carafe coffee maker

My husband wants a thermal carafe coffee maker, but I am leery of them because I have read about them leaking all over the counter as the coffee is being made. Anyone have a good one to recommend?

Thanks,
Gayle

My brother has one and loves it, but I am not sure of the brand - GE or Hamilton Beach. I have Cuisinart coffeemaker and recently replaced it with a similar model. Cuisinart has a model with the thermal carafe. I thought about buying it, but we are creatures of habit and like to see how much coffee is still in the pot.

I have a Mr. Coffee with the thermal carafe. It is only an 8 cup model, but it was under $40. at K-Mart or Wally World or something. I find it works best if you "charge" the carafe with hot water for at least five minutes before you brew the coffee. Then it stays hot for hours

We have had the Cuisinart brand thermal carafe maker for about three years. It really keeps the coffee hot for a long time. I have not noticed any leakage, so far. Mine also has the grinder built in, but I don't use it anymore. The carafe pours slower than traditional coffee makers....it makes me practice patience.:p

I own this one from Braun. It is an excellent coffe maker and I never have a leaking issue.

The link is from Amazon, but it's not available there any longer (I bought mine at Amazon a few years ago). Sadly, I can't find any places online where it is for sale other than on ebay, where it looks like there are two used ones for sale.

My guess is apparently it is discontinued. :(

But if you can find a new one, I can recommend it. :)

I have had this exact one for many years. Now I sure hope mine lasts forever. It keeps coffee hot with little loss of flavor for at least an hour.

Cuisinart. Once you've owned a thermal carafe maker, you'll never go back to anything else.

We have Zojirushi, and never had any leaking problems. I would buy it again.

We are on our second Cuisinart (12 cup and no grinder). We love the way the thermos pot keeps the coffee hot and doesn't create that "burned" taste you get with a heater element.

The "leakage" issue is because the filter basket and the lid to the pot have to be aligned perfectly or the coffee won't flow into the pot. (It has a small opening in the lid so that it keeps out more of the cool air. We had problems occasionally with not getting the basket seated perfectly, and then it would fill up and overflow onto our counters....and the drawers below...and the floor. A mess! Thinking I'd repalce it, I researched other thermal pot coffeemakers and it looked like that was a common problem with several brands, so we just kept using it because I liked the way it brewed coffee.

When we remodeled our kitchen and put in new cupboards, I bought an attractive ceramic tray with high sides, and simply put the coffeemaker in there, so that if it overflowed, the liquid stayed in the tray.

We got a new Cuisinart pot for Christmas, and it looks as if the basket design has changed slightly to help minimize this issue. On the plus side, our old Cuisinart was still going fine after about 10 years. But the outside was looking kind of beat up and the pot hard a permanent "lining" of coffee stains, so we just decided it was time for a new one. So far, no "floods" with the new pot, so I'm hoping it won't be a problem again.

We had this problem with our carafe, too, and I searched and found a solution that works for us. Add a tablespoon or so of dishwasher detergent to the bottom of the empty carafe, and pour in boiling water to the top. Put on the lid and let it sit for an hour or so, and voila - stains are all gone!
