Thought I’d post my Kierland experience from last week. We received a SPG invite - $379.00 for 4 nights, $75.00 Starwood gift card and $100 AMEX card if we sat through a refresher presentation having been there 2 years ago. Good deal.
Staff and resort are so great. Stayed in the hotel building (nice room) as opposed to the 1 BR Villa from last visit. Pleasant people, clean rooms, gorgeous pools, good food (though very expensive) – overall very nice.
Sat through the presentation and admittedly knew nothing about their program, having remembered nothing from the previous visit. Very nice sales lady – easy to talk with, not obnoxious, quite pleasant. Same for their ‘inventory specialist.’ We stated early on we had no intention of purchasing and do not make snap decisions under the pretense of scarcity and possible price increases. They presented what they felt was the best option given our finances, but still ‘getting us in on preconstruction pricing.’ The pitch – 1 BR, Plat, 67100 SO, EOY, at Lagunamar, Cancun. Price: $12,900. Though because it’s under construction, they offer 33,500 Starpoints for 2008 and Gold card. I politely declined.
It wasn’t until I got to my laptop and started Googling everything under the sun trying to find a fair market value, that I realized how bad of a deal this was on so many levels. TUG is invaluable! Thank you all!
Thanks to SDKath, I found a 1BR Prem, Plat, 81K SO, EY at Kierland. Price: ~$11K. I’ve since read many posts of people finding TUG after-the-fact having purchased from the developers. Poor souls – the money difference is staggering to me. SO many things omitted in explaining how ownership works.
Thanks to all for the great info.
