Received timeshare in divorce, simplest way to get deed in my name?

I'm recently divorced and received our Kissimmee timeshare in the divorce settlement, I called the timeshare last week about getting my ex-husbands name off the deed and they referred me to a place who charges almost $500.

Any suggestions for easily, and cheaply, getting the deed put into my name only? I think I read somewhere a while back that you could just retype the deed and contact the county where the timeshare is located and get it updated for a small fee?

It's probably worth $500 to PUT it in your Husbands name, hope you didn't give up tangible assets in exchange for a worthless timeshare

I'd leave your ex's name on the deed so that if they (the resort) needs to come back after someone for MF's, etc. he's still on the hook with you :D

My ex and I just did quit claim deeds.

Transferring title is your ex's responsiblity. He's the one who'll need to sign the deed. Yes, it may be more of a burden than a benefit to own. However, if you want to present your ex with a deed to sign, you can use a form Quitclaim Deed found on the net (Florida requires a 2" blank square in the upper right corner), insert his name an address as "grantor," yours as "grantee" and the legal description exactly as typed on your deed.

He'll need to sign it b4 two witnesses + a notary (who can also act as a witness). You'll need to present it to the county clerk's public records office for recording, with the appropriate fees and a stamped-return envelope. Don't be shy about calling them for the necessary information.

Contact ttt here. He can do a closing for you for $100 or less.

If you don't want to do it yourself - this is an excellent option and you will get a professional transfer that is done right the first time. I have used Alan's transfer services myself and he was quick, inexpensive, and accurate.

I totally agree. Using Alan is an inexpensive way to go.

If you love your timeshare, it's great you are getting it. But if you don't love it, I wouldn't accept the thing in the settlement and would opt for something more valuable. The best way to check the value of your timeshare is to look on eBay.

Let's not create tension for a couple who may be divorcing amicably. If they have owned together for long, OP knows what the t/s is worth to her for future vacations.

Not all of us feel the same way about timeshares

If you think you are going to use the Timeshare it could be a wonderful asset from the divorce. Orlando has many timeshares, but it is a great place to bring the family for entertainment with EPCOT, Universal, SeaWorld, Magic Kingdom...some are geared more for older children and some for younger. Even if you are past the parks, a nice resort would provide a nice place to come during winter.

So, while I read this read this cynical reply about TS, I would think for a little, $100-$500, you could have a nice vacation retreat.

My Point, is they paid X teen thousand dollars for it, I just hope she didn't give up X teen thousand/2 for an asset that is probably really worth $1.00 /2 or less in current market value

Is Alan a professional closing company, an individual? Does he close sales for $100 in any state? Just curious because I have been using JRA Services at $275 a pop. She has always done grea work but if ttt (Alan) does the same thing for less than half price, I am very6 interested.

As long as you don't need escrow services, this is the way to go!

I used ttt for a timeshare I gave away and included having the deed prepared in the new owner's name. It was fast and professional and this is the way to go if you don't need escrow.

Alan is a Tugger who owns a professional timeshare transfer company. I don't know what states he works in. Here is his TUG rating and threads about his services - http://www.tugbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=107603
