Staying with the family on Oahu for 3 days before heading to Maui. Will want to see Pearl Harbor, hike Diamond Head, surf at Waikiki so we'll be kinda all over the place. We'll be 3 adults and 2 kids, so will need either 2 hotel rooms or a 2BR. Looking for some[lace nice but not too expensive, and hoped those who have stayed perhaps a few days before/after Ko'Olina or when island hopping could make a recommendation. Doesn't have to be a Marriott.

I have found the Imperial Hotel which I think is now a timeshare (?) to be surprisng affordable and nice, although this was years ago so I am not sure about the "affordable" anymore, but worth checking out.

We love our 2BR OF in the Lagoon tower at Hilton Hawaiian Village. So I can heartily recommend the 2BRs at the Lagoon (or Grand Waikikian or Grand Islander) towers at HHV…but they will not be inexpensive. But probably not more expensive than two rooms at the usual Marriott beachfront suspects - the Royal Hawaiian, Moana Surfrider, and Sheraton.

Or you could try two rooms at the new Waikiki City Collection.

My usual recommendation for “reasonable” on O’ahu is the RI in Kapolei…but the location is ill suited for the activities you mentioned.

sounds like you will have a car. The Banyan at the DH end of Waikiki is fine and has free parking. I stayed in a 1 bdrm yrs ago. 2 bdrms must exist?
In general, it is tough to answer. People have so many different priorities & tradeoffs.

I heard the Ramada across from HHV does not have a resort fee. Close to Ala Moana. tamaradamran seems to live nr there. Maybe she has been inside.

That Imperial that Zen mentioned is in a great location (using my priorities) but maybe less so if dealing with a car. I always see mention of studios and 1 bdrms in it.

When we lived on Oahu we went down to Waikiki for weekend events and spent the night at a few places that might work:
Queen Kapiolani Hotel was by the zoo and basic but affordable
Embassy Suites has the best pool situation for a non-resort hotel in my opinion. I enjoyed hanging out there to relax away from the crowds.
Hilton Garden Inn- more peaceful area of Waikiki and we like MAC 24/7 diner.
Hyatt Place was fine- I don't especially recommend it. I particularly hated the pool side breakfast when it was raining.

Hope this helps.

I will second the recommendation on the Two Bedrooms at HHV, we have stayed in most and they are great. Last year we needed to add a few nights after an airline schedule change, and booked two nights at the Sheraton Waikiki and really like that location as well. Not sure on the current pricing there, probably not that cheap.

There is a small hotel on the Beach Walk and next to Ft Derusy called the Breakers Hotel. The rooms do have a small mini kitchenette. There is a small pool. It is very inexpensive for being a block off the beach.
