So- owners with RCI points- when is the actual reservation sent to your resort?- home resort or otherwise.

A RCI points owner at our resort says for the first time their home resort did not have her reservation for either this December or June- which she booked within the needed timeframe.

RCI told her they notify the resort a only month a head of time because so many people cancel or change their reservations. The resort staff didn't even seem aware of it.

She does have the confirmations from RCI.

Besides that this seems crazy, what I want to know is, if they do not notify the resort earlier, how does the resort even know what inventory they will have available so they can make it available?

I am a weeks owner so I just don't get it...

When we use our RCI Points we get a confirmation from RCI pretty much right away saying we have booked ABC Resort for dates 123. I usually phone the resort 10 to 14 days before checking (to request a section, floor or advise of a late arrival). If I call any earlier than 2 weeks the resort tells me they haven't received my booking from RCI yet and to call back after the 2 week (on one occasion 1 week) mark. The resort knows a unit has been booked for those dates, but has no details on who will be using it.

It really doesn't make a lot of sense to me as it's just as easy to RCI to give the name at the time of booking rather than communicate twice with them. Also what happens if someone wants to rent out their points week? How does the owner give the renter a confirmation in their name, wait until 1-2 weeks in advance of check-in? If I was renting I'd want it to see that when I booked/paid for the week.

Hmmm...Right. And I am surprised as in my frined's case they are booking their own unit and week-it's their home resort. So you would think the resort would at least know that.

And- yes- what if you are renting it out to someone? Something isn't right with this picture.

I'm surprised as well--and also don't deal with RCI points, but didn't realize that owners had to go through RCI to book their own resorts. I always thought there was an underlying 'week' that they could book if they didn't want to deposit to points.

Yes- well- if you own RCI points you have an underlying week and unit- but you still have to book it through RCI 13 months out I believe it is- if you want that same unit and week. If you don't, you can still book 12 months out, but you might not get your unit or your week, but will get your home resort. After that, you give up the guarantee for your week/unit/home resort and have to use your points for something else.

This is one reason I do not own points, since we like to go to our home resorts every year. I think it is crazy that you have to book what you already own. For us as weeks owners, we just show up.
