In February I booked a week through RCI Points for a 2BR Gold Crown on April 19th. 34,500 points Plus $ 164.00 exchange fee.

Since that time an additional foursome wanted to join our group. I looked today in last call and found another week for 6,500 points plus 164.00.

IF I booked this, my total expenditure would be 41,000 points spent plus $ 328.00. Computing the points easily at $.01/POINT, my true cost would be $ 328.00 plus $410.00. TOTAL $738.00.

I called RCI and asked the VC if he could work me a deal. If I would return the interval back to their inventory, could they return my 34,500 points and keep the $164.00. I would then rebook the SAME interval for another $164.00 but only use 6,500 points.

The net result was that I received two intervals for 13,000 points and $ 492.00 (Original $164 + 2nd unit $164.00 + Rebooking 1st unit $164.00)
Computing the points easily at .01/point. means tha I received the 2 weeks for $492.00 plus $130.00 in points (13,000 x .01). TOTAL $ 622.00.

RCI made an extra $164.00 and I saved $116.00.

I was warned that this was unusual and was NOT policy, but, at least the RCI VC and his supervisor saw the advantage to BOTH of us. These astute employees recognized that I still have 28,000 points remaining and that I will spend and they will make more money. Kudos to RCI.

Did you get all your points back less the 13000 to reserve the 2 weeks? RCI rules are that you need to cancel 120 days before. At 29 days or less you onlyget back 25% of the points. If the rep made an exception, that's great for you.

Granted! The impressive thing was that the rep saw that it was a good idea, asked the supervisor and made an intelligent decision.

Last year, I booked a studio for Aruba. Later in the year, I wanted to "upgrade" to a 1 bedroom. Per rules, I would've had to cancel the first reservation (losing points) and re-book the second. The VC made an exception and did the switch at no extra charge to me. The only thing it "cost" me was the point difference between the two units.
