My husband's favorite Christmas cookie is sugar cookies, but he doesn't care about cutout shapes, or want sprinkles on top. So today I made him sugar cookies, except I patted the dough out on sprayed parchment paper on a sheetpan, and made them like bar cookies. At the last minute he asked for chocolate on top, so I threw some grated dark chocolate on half the pan. This took about 10% of the time that it usually takes to make fancy sugar cookies. No, it's not a glamor shot, but it was an easy peasy way to make sugar cookies!

You are so creative!

Is the baking temperature and time the same as for traditional separate cookies?

Yes - 375º for 12-15 min. They would look cute with sprinkles on them, but my husband didn't want any.

I’ve made a similar recipe that calls for sprinkling them with a little colored sugar and cutting them in diamond shapes, which look nice on a plate for serving. You end up with a few odd shaped pieces left over but they never go to waste (actually they probably go to my waist).

Same as my husband! He says that I ruin the cookies with frosting and sprinkles. I always set aside a ziploc bag of undecorated cookies for him.
