Questions about Harbor Point

My wife had booked an eleven night stay at Harbor Point for late April. She's been there before, generally goes down to get away and focus on some professional projects, I sometimes join her for a few days at best depending on my work situation. Yesterday our DIL asked us about doing a family vacation with her and my son and grandsons (5 & 2 at that point) and this is one of the few openings we have in our schedule to do that, probably for three or four nights. Since it's already a two-bedroom that works, but I'm curious what amenities would be there for the kids during that time period. I couldn't determine from a cursory review online if there's an indoor pool available for the kids? Playground? Should we attempt to book at another of the many locations that would be better for the five-year old? Hey, only a grandfather would twist our plans around to entertain a five-year old <g>.

I can't answer all your questions. As far as the pool goes, there is no indoor pool at Harbour Point, there is a heated pool though. I have been in late April and found it warm enough to swim in a heated pool, at least for a guy from Michigan.

I don't know if it matters, but the second bedroom has 2 twin beds, not 2 queen beds like Grande Ocean, Barony Beach and Surfwatch.

Thanks for that. Yeah, that seems pretty standard whenever we book or end up with two bedrooms. I'm just trying to learn as much as I can about the property, my wife has been there before and I guess I have as well but since it was just the two of us we didn't pay much attention to these other details. We've had them out at Newport Beach and some years ago, at the one near Atlantic City. But the five-year old was either an infant or a toddler at those points so it didn't much matter. I haven't even checked to see what properties have indoor pools that we might be able to move to, or kids activities for that matter.

All of the 3 mentioned in my post above have indoor pools. When we were at HP, they had tons of activities geared for the little ones. I don't believe there is a playground, but hey do have corn hole and maybe a few other outdoor games by the pavilion. Watching boats and dolphin and being in Shelter Cove may be great for the boys. I can tell you will make it great anywhere you are! Good luck.

She probably booked it because it was a good points value for the 11 days. All things being equal I would think you'd have a better time at the Grande Ocean but I'd imagine it would come at a much higher cost. That is not to say HP isn't nice and they wouldn't enjoy it but it is a much smaller resort without the indoor pool.

Have a look at how much it would be to switch to Barony. That is probably the lowest point cost one with an indoor pool if that is a priority. I wouldn’t think young kids would spend all that much time in an indoor pool anyway unless they are real fish.

As someone who raised kids vacationing at MVCs there is always something to do. Every one I have been to has a “kids club” with games, crafts, activities, things to borrow. Give the resort a call (or better yet have mom do it) to get an idea of what they have. Bring or shop for a new ball or kite or such to surprise the kids with when they arrive- something new for you to play together.

Enjoy.

Thank you, Pamplemousse. I think you're probably right as I don't have any reason to believe that he's all that invested in the pool and the suggestions from you and others are all good. Plus, at least my wife is driving down we have plenty of room for the myriad of toys and Legos that he has at our house. Surprising him with new toys has been a constant, he's the first grandkid. So there will be no lack of effort at that end. Hopefully the weather will allow some beach walks and maybe some whale sighting, I have no idea about that but binoculars would be handy. Have to find mine, maybe get him a pair. Thanks again for your suggestion. I don't remember our kids participating in kids club activities but it may be because they were already getting just a bit too old for that stuff at that point.

Yes, she's booked there before and likes the size of the place and the value. She generally goes to find alone time to spread out her paperwork and focus on things without much distraction. It's a busy time of year for me so I've joined her once or twice by flying down and driving home with her, this plan sort of alters the game plan but grandchildren are designed just for that purpose. Between now and then we'll be at VC's in Ft. Lauderdale, HI and along the Spanish Coast. Busy year. So we'll be eating up points pretty steadily, this one is a real deal. Thanks for your comments, looks like I'm getting a game plan in place. Liking it more every minute.

HP really is such a great value points wise. We were there in Sept on points we rented and it was very cheap for the week. The other thing worth mentioning is that HP is going through a soft goods refresh the end of this year so you're have a nice updated room to enjoy.

Thank you, Moxjo. Good to know. I wonder if whales will be in season along the coast in March . . . that would be pretty cool. Something a five-year old might sink his teeth into.

We saw dolphins from our balcony while staying at Harbour Point several years ago
