Question on searching II without making a deposit

I heard that you can search Interval International's website for an exchange even though that unit has not yet been deposited to see how the unit trades.

I tried to search with my 2007 Marriott Ko Olina float week that I own and II request that I enter a reservation number and a Check-In date. Do I just enter a generic number, so I can continue?

Has anyone tried searching without depositing your unit first?

I search without depositing all the time. It's easy and works well for my fixed weeks. But for my floating resort, II demands a reservation number and date. I have to make a reservation at my home resort and then use that number to search II. Usually it works.
It might be different for Marriott. Call II and ask or ask on the Marriott board.

Yes, pick a date and enter any 8 digit number starting with 8 and you'll be able to search with that unit.

Like Dave said... for Marriott, select the resort that you want to trade (unit and year) and then make up any 8 digit number beginning with 8 and make up a date around when you plan on reserving your home resort. Then go ahead and search. It works fine this way.

Thanks all for your help

It worked by entering an 8 digit reservation number starting with an 8. Thanks all for your help.

Ok, I'm trying to figure out this system of seeing what is available on II before actually depositing. I own floating weeks at Marriott. When I choose which unit and year I want to exchange, it goes to the screen where I can put in a fake reservation number and the dates I'm interested in...I get that. But the next screen has language stating that II will have immediate use of this week. If I choose "DEPOSIT" on this screen, am I to understand that I am NOT actually depositing - that the later confirmation screen is when the deposit becomes official? I'm sure this will all become old hat after I've tried it a few times, but for now I'm just afraid of making an irreversible mistake.

no, dont Deposit the week. You can do a search, and then it will ask you which unit you want to search with. Then enter your random reservation number and start date.

Thanks for the pointers - I have successfully done the search without depositing now. I am excited about the possibilities I see!
