Anyone else make the mistake of going through the SPG website to combine accounts? Has it caused any complications with your MVCI account?
I finally got around to logging into both accounts to combine them.
I combined my husband's account first. The page to combine accounts looks the same on both Marriott.com and spg.com. Because I logged in to the SPG account and moved through the stages from there, all the points went to SPG and he got a new SPG number. I wasn't paying enough attention to realize SPG numbers were still viable. I thought everything SPG would be combined into the Marriott accounts, since Marriott acquired SPG.
I called Owner Services to see if this is a problem with our profile at MVCI. The OS rep called Rewards to see if it could be reversed but Rewards said it couldn't. OS rep told me he updated our profile and assures me it won't be a problem.
Personally, I'd rather have the Marriott Rewards number on the accounts because I have them memorized and not changing would be comfortable.
Time now to memorize a new 9-digit number.
