Hi, I just bought Grandview in vegas in RCI points every other year odd. I just got my 49k points, and I think that I have a rci week getaway wanted to know is this every year and if so how do i know? Also how much is 50k points worth in resale secondary market or for purchase? i see i need more points to travel to better destinations and their are not that many options for high demand locations like Paris, Rome ect. How do i see more options thanks for your help.

If you purchased direct, you probably want to rescind. Grandview is one of the easy to buy resale locations and they are cheap to free. A good choice if you want RCI points, but you may want something else if you do some research first. I don't know about much availability internationally, certainly not in cities - that's one of the downsides, most "American Timeshare Systems" don't have locations in Europe where Americans want to go (i.e. we usually don't want to go to Europe to be in the middle of nowhere in the country, but that's where the timeshares often are because Europeans like getting out of the cities for vacations). I think Marriott has some in the a couple cities, but that's very expensive and they're not in RCI. If you mostly want to go to Europe, I'd rethink from the beginning, and consider Hapimag - but that's substantially different from US Timeshares and ONLY has locations in Europe.

Awsome response, I bought it for about 100 bucks and the hoa is 237 bc its every other year. So how do I add options for more travel in the US, Like NYC,DC, Chicago ect and Europe?? Can I add II interval or add RCI registry Collection or Platinum? What would you do?

I think if you just want to use RCI you could add more points by buying more Grandview. However, maybe you want to fill out the "What should I buy" template from the sticky at the top of this forum in a new thread because it'll really depend. If you have enough points you may be able to exchange into HGVC or Wyndham in NYC and DC, but the availability is probably varied. I think Chicago may only be a Marriott - I'm not sure. Without knowing the answers to the questions from the sticky, it's pretty hard to make more than very generic recommendations like get enough RCI points if you want to use RCI for where you want to exchange.

77,000 RCI points (Sunrise Ridge Resort, TN)

Again, hopefully you didnt buy from a sales presentation and overpay by about 99%.
We have a different Vacation Village affiliated resort. The previous owners paid to convert it to RCI points (77,000) before we got it for free from them. So you should be able to pick up a 50K or even more points package for free or next to it. We have no trouble getting 3-5 vacations, all 7-13 nights long from our points but always within the USA or Canada. We dont need Gold Crown resorts and I always check the vacations for less than 10K points when looking for somewhere to go.

Ours also came with a Bonus Week each year. It isnt free, just a reduced exchange fee, and the vacations are subject to availability and usually are short notice (7-60, or sometimes 90 days) check-ins. We have used them often to add onto a points exchange in the same area and once at the same resort for a 2nd week stay.

You can also book an Extra Vacation or Last Call week to go along with a vacation booked with points to increase your vacation time.

Before buying another prepay and borrow from next year. First timeshare is exciting when you see the possibility (it's addicting) but acquire slowly and only if needed and all other options exhausted.

@Timeshare2025 I think you bought a great 'starter' TS. You will be able to learn the system (RCI Points) and TS in general. True, you won't be able to realize all your travel dreams, but it will give you a good base to start from. You can 'sit out' a year, and carry over those points to the next one, as well as borrow from a future year as long as the MF is prepaid.

Grandview is a low cost- and safe-from S/As- resort- even if you never go there. And not a bad place if you do. And you can frequently get $300/wks last calls there and save your points for other travels.

As you noticed and others pointed out, timeshares in general are more of a US/Mexico/Caribbean phenomenon, and less so in Europe. European stays in the cities (we find) are better served with hotels and VRBOs than TSs. Europeans live in the cities and want to vacation out in the countryside.

I encourage you to actually join TUG as a Member for $15/yr- discounted by posting reviews. With this comes access to thousands of resort reviews by fellow TUGgers, and viewing TUG without those pesky ads.

Welcome to TUG?

The first thing to do is determine where the timeshares are. I purchased mine to travel to Europe and have zero regrets about that.

There are almost no II/RCI timeshares in the major cities. And what few exist are very hard to trade into. But some of the countryside resorts are directly on a rail line, which can be even better than being in the middle of a city -- depending on location, of course.

We've seen most of Europe using a combination of timeshares, hotels, and AirBnb. Typically, we'll sort out the timeshare portion of the trip first, and then add more days using more traditional accommodations.

I think the worst strategy for new owners is to immediately go shopping for more timeshares. Even the best timeshare system doesn't do it all. If there was a one-size-fits-all solution, we'd all be using it. Learning the strengths (and more-importantly the limitations) of your Grandview week will put you in a much better position. Start seeing what their last minute deals are -- if any good ones come up that work for you, pounce on them.
