If I lockoff my 3BR at MGV into a 2BR and a Guestroom... can I choose to book a 2BR lockoff with the 2BR portion of it? Or will I only get a dedicated 2BR?

You can, but to my knowledge not at MGV. You would only get a 2BR dedicated. You cannot lock-off twice using a 3BR at MGV or MPB. You can however book the 2BR portion at MBP which only has 2BR lock-offs. You would then call and have it locked off since the online system does not accomodate that second lock-off ability.

With this method you can get three Marriott exchanges with the 3BR. It's a nice option to think about but I think owning a 2BR annual and a 2BR eoy is a better deal.

Thanks for the information. I have no intention of trying to do a double-lockoff. If I lock-off my 3BR, I prefer to have a 2BR lockoff so our guests can have their own entrance and their own balcony. I wondered if the on-line reservation system would let us book the 2BR as a lockoff or not. It sounds like it won't let me for the very reason you stated. I suppose I can always try trading it (via II) for another 2BR at MGV, and then request a lockoff. Or perhaps I could request a 2BR lockoff at check-in?

The auto reservation assignment would be a 2BR portion of the 3BR lock-off but MGV could place you in a 2BR lock-off. I would contact MGV on their policy if you request a 2BR lock-off type unit. The place is so large with most units being lock-offs that if they allow it then you are almost guaranteed it.

Rooms control would have to make the switch after you have your confirmed reservation. YOu can't book the 2BR lock off since you own a 3BR unit that locks off in to a 2BR master and a studio unit. These units are a little unique in how they are setup. The 2BR isn't your standard 2BR dedicated unit. The resort can make a switch, though it is all based on if they have a unit available to switch you to. Given that it is a large resort, with a lot of exchangers, I would think it shouldn't be a problem. But you really need to discuss it with rooms control. Owner Services can't reserve a 2BR lock off and a studio for you from your 3BR unit.
